heh my parents got me a Ford Ka.... it was the best beater in the whole world, the engine was elderly but willing, it handled like a go kart and managed to drive to swansea (wales) and back (from middlesbrough.... UK google map it) in desperated need of new oil and engine coolant and it never complained once. old beaters have character for sure, i almost felt like that little Ka was my little companion trying its hardest to serve me. i was sad to see it go when i sold it

still got pictures of it though it all its faded, rusty glory. good car that. i guarantee you wont get that from a spankin 07 corolla.
it is a boring, old grey man in a V-neck sweater car though, the only corolla here at work is driven by a 60 year old man. hahaha and other than that they are the pakistani's first choice of car and taxi here. and i can see why....the corolla is bullet proof to the max, for what you pay you get a shed load of use and abuse from it.(though they are going to skoda octavias now)
i had to buy my next car, myself, with my own money! how shocking is that eh?.... buying your own definately makes you appreciate how big an undertaking buying a car is, and mine was only £4k second hand, imagine buying it new for £12k! my dads pretty well off, but now, i understand just how much of a burden buying a new ride can be.
since i have to pay for everything on this, its made me a more careful driver.... replacement parts aint cheap.
thats why my focus is in tip top condition, and some freshman punks BMW E39 540i looks likes its been in a rally cross event. that 540 is such a nice ride and he just rags it around like its nothing.... its a 15-20K car USED, some ones even got a Merc E430 as well, though they do take care of that very well.
its odd but here at least, ive noticed that most of the silverspoon kids do the most worthless degrees as well. out of the 130 of us on the engineerin course...the best cars are...
a really old range rover
a BMW Z3 1.8 (painfully slow, and the owner saved up the ££ to get it)
Seat Arosa 1.0l
my mates Skoda Fabia
my focus 1.4CL (bottom of the range)
my other friends Mk5 golf TDI she got as a very late 21st present -
ford fiesta Mk3
ford escort Mk2
Peugeot 106 1.1i
old skool suzuki jimny
rover 214i
numerous bicycles
all bar one are bought with the owners hard earned, but they are all very down to earth cars. seems those who actually work hard at uni have this trait, the dude doing 5 hours a week on a sports course spends most of their time getting plastered and posing in their 330i's or mini cooper S's - this lot also tend to have campus passes and pay to be able to park their cars in halls of residence parking lots too. (permits are needed)
