I just got my Retail 170 from monarch and it's the same stepping.

I got a 165 that's 0541....ordered an oem from monarch and missed out on their initial stock and got one from their second shipment. Prime stable at 2500 with 1.4. Load temps at 53 with an XP-90 and low flow fan. I'll push some more voltage to the cpu and chipset for testing, but I think 2500 at 1.4 looks like a good everyday running speed.

1.5-1.6V seems to be the sweet spot for my cooling.. temps getting high.

Update:

I am crazy and decided to remove the IHS. (first time) spread some AS5 on the naked core and carefully mounted my heatsink.. im not sure how good the contact is between my Scythe HS.. i didnt mod any of the brackets or anything... hit the power switch and was so relieved when it posted

I like this outlook. Nice, safe, stable, high performance overclock...Lots of guys are frying these chips over at xtreme w/ 1.65+ volts..just crazy.

my 165 has a new owner now.

I have a 0530 Opteron 170 coming in.. Will post results when I get it.. Probably tomorrow!! Going for 3 GHz on air! =p

I won't stop until I hit 3 GHz! Basically broke even selling the 165.

I bought a OEM 170 from MWave but it was a 0534.. put it on eBay already.

Bought the 0530 170 on the FS/T forum.

I'm confused. I've overclocked many times but it was always to get more for my $$$. It seems a lot of folks lose money by going after these great overclocking chips. Is there some sort of CPU Overclocking drag strip I don't know about?

Is it true that the Opteron 170s are great overclockers and run cool?

Clock for clock they are the same .. ( 1m cache beats 512k by small amount in some apps )

I'ts true if if you get a good chip.. I don't think they are consistantly any better than X2's..

as i read this i look at my 170 ccbwe 0530 sitting on my desk, and remember how i wont be able to build my computer for another month, and a little part of me dies inside.

anyways nice oc, but personally im hoping for more out of my chip (but i do have the amazing stepping )

About to buy an 170 0534 SPMW anything wrong with that stepping? It is not the 0530.... but it is all i can find right now. Should i wait or go for it?

Got my OEM 170 0530 from NewEgg yesterday (see sig). Haven't had time yet to see how far I can push it. The water cooling kit is useless. Will pull it over the weekend.

My 170 is in the mail but I?ve got a a8n, so I imagine 2.5ghz is all I'll be able to push it with a 1:1 ratio . That may prompt me to get a DFI NF4 Ultra-D and some OCZ VX gold.

I'll post my results regardless.
