Opteron 170 0530 pic
I got this processor in today..
2900 @ 1.53 SuperPi 32MB
2800 @ 1.43
2600 @ 1.328 (Other 0530s were able to hit 2700 @ the same voltage :()

Worth the extra $70 compared to my old 165? I'm not sure :p

Opteron 165 0534
2.51 GHz @ 1.312 V screen shot

1.5-1.6V seems to be the sweet spot for my cooling.. temps getting high.

Update:

I am crazy and decided to remove the IHS. (first time) spread some AS5 on the naked core and carefully mounted my heatsink.. im not sure how good the contact is between my Scythe HS.. i didnt mod any of the brackets or anything... hit the power switch and was so relieved when it posted :)

IHS OFF / ON

i guess it helped alittle??

doesn't seem to scale very well w/ more volts.. having difficulty getting getting it prime stable at 2.8 GHz with even 1.6v in it.

I want to try another power supply and/or different ram.

The doctor, makes a good point, Please tell us you took smaller steps between 2.5 and 2.8.

Primed at 2.7 @ about 1.45 volts..

I'm in class most of the day so I can't do anymore testing.

2.5 ghz @ 1.312V is a Great OC anyway you look at it. Are you using the stock cooler ?

Yep, thats not bad at all, I need 1.475v for my X2 to be stable at 2.618ghz, needed 1.45 to 2.5ghz..

Good job on the 2.5 GHz o/c.

Prime95 stable is great, if you can get it, but it is not always necessary. I can get my Venice 3000+ to 2.8 GHz, but it is not Prime95 stable. However, it will play Far Cry for as long as I want at that setting. :)

Cooling = Scythe Ninja HSF

it's a CCBWE 0534 like all the other 165's.. havent really seen any other steppings..

best stepping I've seen so far is the CCBWE 0530TPMW.. only found on the 175's so far though.. but people are hitting about 2.9 ghz at 1.4

Excellent.:) Good work. My DFI should be here tomorrow I hope to do better since I have same stepping as you but poor results on boards used so far... (off to read about that HS:)) and yes best stepping is CCBWE 0530TPMW.. Just like 0530 single cores are hitting 3-3.2.. Very good week at AMD.

Been priming for awhile at 2.7 GHz..

It needs 1.48V for both cpu's to be stable.. CPU 0 runs great, but CPU 1 needs about .05 more volts to be stable at the same clockspeed.

my temps are getting TOO high.. 55C load during dual prime small FTT's. 69C PWM IC temp!

It wasn't this high on my old X2 even when I put more voltage in it.

My goal is to get 2.8 GHz dual prime stable.

Under 55C load is generally good, for aircooling anyway..

Dualcores generate ALOT more heat, especially the pwm ic... I put over 1.7V in my Opty 146 and my CPU temps during load never went above 50C and my PWM IC temps were about 50C.

I have a Antec P180 w/ x4 120mm fans inside... I need to find a way to mount a 120mm over the mosfets without just putting my case on its side with a 120mm on top :p

I wouldn't worry about the temps on the MOSFETs and/or PWM ICs much. They're normally rated for around 125C junction temperature, which should be somewhere in the vicinity of 100C surface temp. In other words, if you can't boil water on them, they should be fine. :D Shouldn't really have any negative effects on voltages or stability, either.

Same, roughly. 1.475 at 2.5 ghz. I think either the psu or the board has crappy voltage regulation. Not sure which.

Well, I guess 7C less (especially going from 55 to under 50) was well worth it :D

seems reasonable to me. It seems like there's some variation on the different chips on how much voltage they need to run stable. I need 1.5V to run 2650Mhz.

I just got my Retail 170 from monarch and it's the same stepping.

Well here's another one. Just got everything in today:

Opteron 165 CCBWE 0534SPMW
DFI NF4 SLI-DR
Antec tower & 500W supply
MSI Geforce pcie 6800-128
OCZ533-1024ELDCPE-K
I'm going to use an IBM 60 gig IDE to get it started, I'll add SATA afterward.

Now to do a lot of reading on everything; the power supply doesn't have nearly all the connectors to it that my Enermax has but there's lots of connectors in a bundle so they must attach somehow.

I'm going air at first & then I'll transfer the cascade over & go waterblock. I'd remove the spreader & add AS5 to the top of the cores but I don't want to void my warranty (bought the box)

I need to replace the fuel pump in my car before doing anything with this & then I'll have at it. Seeing as it just snowed today, this is is going to be real fun...

With this mobo & chip, is there any settings or suggestions for me that I should be ready to make or do? I did download the newest bios for the DFI which will activate the 2nd core. I know the bios will be different than in my DFI NF2 Ultra

Any settings I need to be aware to make or not to select?

Thanks!

MM
