Nah. I'm a responsible driver however I am afraid of how tempting it will be to speed. Is the Valentine 1 the current standard for detectors?

I'm checking into the ratings for the OEM tires, they are performance tires and I don't know how well its going to function in the rain. However I don't plan to take it out in the rain.

The car is for me. Not the babes. Either way, chicks don't care if you drive a 1 series or a 7. From experience they only need to see you have a BMW. I think I said too much and really I'm not THAT kind of person :p

no. there are plenty other radar detectors for cheaper that are great. i've been out of it for a while, but im sure if you search you'll find some.

great car and congrats.

im personally biased against bmw's since i think they're way overpriced, but the m3 is nice.

IIRC other detectors edge it out in a couple tests, but it's hard to beat the overall package. Plus you get a very cheap upgrade path as technology changes.

As for the performance tires, you'd be surprised by how well they work in the rain. Often they work better than normal tires. Cold weather or snow are the real killers.

Nice. Were you able to buy it at MSRP or did you have to pay the BS market adjustment?

slightly below MSRP. Total damage came to $62,400. I forgot to include the ipod adapter but he threw it in for free but the Silver Novillo leather was included at $860 instead of $950, I forgot to mention that.

I was on the fence about M-DCT but I kept hearing very good things about it. That it's much better than the old SMG in the e46 M3s.

Darkthinker, it's been mentioned on several m3 forums that the new M3 is probably cannibalizing the M5/6 sales because it's such a good value right now. Personally, I agree. Although I'd love to have the space of the M5 but 12MPG? No thanks. Even though I have a 4 mile commute to work I just couldn't justify that car at the cost its at.

12mpg driving it easy. :) If you really give it the cane, you can get 6-7mpg.

Do not allow that kid to come within 20 feet of the car unless you have at least a 3 foot radius of protective stuff around his car seat. I'd recommend some of those dog seat covers for the back, plus a cover for the back of the seat in front of it (projectile vomit is a very real danger, especially at M3 speeds). You can cut holes in the covers for the seat belts if you need to. We're not talking about a Corolla here.

Meh, I'm putting a Recaro kiddie seat in mine and cleaning up after.

I spilt neat bleach on the carpet of my M3 once. Nothing is worse than that.

Hee hee - I drove a 14-year-old Accord with 206,000 miles when I was 28. I don't miss the car, but I appreciate that it was built to hold up like that.

Congrats! That?s a damn sweet ride indeed.

Shame they're using the e90 rear light clusters on the 4-door M3, though.

AWESOME. This was my mentality as well... do it now or never because you will never again be able to justify spending a large sum while having kids to take care of. Well, not till you're like 50-60... which is the same thing. (Balding men in porsche's anyone?)

Cool wife, same here. 2.5 months to go till the twins arrive. :D Enjoy in good health.

Michelin Pilot Sport 2s are stock tires for the M3.

AKA the same tires originally devoloped for super cars and still standard on many of them as well.

Can't go wrong with PS2's their only draw back is being one of the most expensive tires in their class.

High performance tires generally do better in the rain than their all season counterparts. What you have to worry about is temperature. If it gets below 40-50 degrees F where you live, drive very carefully or invest in a set of spare wheels w/all season tires. High performance tires get harder in cold temperatures.

I think this thread has inspired me to buy the cheapest car I can tolerate right now so that I can afford an M3 as soon as I pay off my law school loans :) Thanks OP, and congrats, gorgeous car.
