My next vehicle purchase - fun vs responsibility vs stupid

In the US, filtering through traffic is illegal in 49 states. If traffic is stopped, motorcycles have to stop with it.

Yep, I've seen them doing that and get busted on US 19 down here a few times.

I was actually looking in my rear view mirror once at a light with a County behind me when a bike did it and pretty much almost looked like he was face palming.

Light turned green blinkers came on.

So much for driving up the line.

I had no idea. More reasons why CA = best.

My car registration here is $50. I'll accept not being able to lane split in exchange for that. And for not having to deal with CARB. And for not having to deal with it being illegal to throw a AA battery in my trash. And for not having an income tax. And for having a lower sales tax. And for having lower property taxes. And for having a more inviting business environment...

😉

Yeah but I can lane split 365 days a year due to the beautiful weather so I win.

=P

BMWs get expensive for service and repairs.
I think used Prius's are overpriced.
Ford Focus got good reviews. A sporty $15,000 one should do well, do not know beyond impressions.
My brother has owned and driven a Hyundai 2002 Tiburon, admittedly a 2 door marginal back seat model.

Motorcycles are all fun, some fit mind body and intent better than others.
A Ninja 250 or 300 is a good economy ride. (my first new motorcycle was a 71 Honda CL350, 35,000 miles in ten months).
On advrider a guy commutes on a Yamaha 250 Star, 60-90 mpg, Texas so mostly flat and dry.

IF you are gearhead thread from Aprillia forum of guy putting Suzuki 650 Vtwin in KTM 950 frame is epic. Look in "Some Assembly Required."

Probably the Ninja 650 or Versys 650 are the best combo economy and fun ride. Big power is fun but not necessary. My buddy has 2004 ZX10R and 2008 ER5? Ninja 650.
Enjoys both a lot, though he raised ZX10R bars for slower comfort (commute can get slow or stop and go). Changed rear shock on 650.
Spend some time on advrider.com, or similar site.

Condition for price is the big car question.

I'll probably get the Toyota Prius. I'm thinking 2010 with IV or V package. I wouldn't mind having the backup cam too. I can find some of those in the $15k region. Some less, some more.

It's unfortunate that the prius doesn't have a moonroof. 🙁 I'll definitely miss that.

I'll probably hold off on buying one for a while and might just buy a motorcycle to hold me over while I'm waiting.

Uh yes it does. Prius 4 with moon roof option. Prius 5 can't have it.

Ah, it's part of the solar roof package. Weird. I couldn't find any with it and it was weird cause it looked like some had it but I thought those were much newer cars.

Either way, I doubt I'll find one for a reasonable price with that option.

You would have to be crazy to get those BMW or just about any German car outside of warranty period.

Stick to basic transportation. Get another Honda.

From your list, prius would be my choice.

My MR2 and AR15 disagree.

CA really isn't the best but I wouldn't put your MR2 or AR15 as reasons why CA is bad.

Taxes in CA are outrageous. (Especially for how shitty it is! The roads are always in terrible shape and the quality of education for K-12 is poor.)

0% for 60 months on a new prius c, plus graduate cash.

Hmm, that's tempting. However, I'd rather have the regular Prius, moonroof, and all the options. For a Prius C to have that, it'd be a very expensive purchase. Also, I doubt I'd qualify for that. I have no credit history. (At all, literally none)

Prius C is just a yaris Hybrid. I test drove one and it's super anemic on the highway. C is for City and that's exactly what the Prius C is for. Much rather have a 2004 Prius than a brand new Prius C unless I could resell the Prius C for money to buy a 2004 Prius. 2010+ Prius is good but I just don't like it as much as the older generation Prius as the 2010+ feels more cramped for the driver.

0% 60 months on 2015 Prius as well. I just checked the Cali market, and they aren't offering it out there though.

Re: no credit history, toyota financial is very easy to finance thru. That is what their new grad program is all about. Iirc, you just need proof of graduation, and your job offer paperwork.
They have like zero risk on you, it's a toyota, they just repo it and sell it for $5 off as certified used.

Emissions laws and firearms laws are two huge reasons why many people avoid CA. I don't like laws that tell me I can't have shit because it doesn't have the right sticker on it.

Where do you live? I've been thinking about selling my 2010 IV...
