I was inspired by FrustratedUser's new bike thread to post my own new toy, which I built up about a month ago. Here she is!

Moots VaMoots 3/2.5 titanium frame, 61.5cm
Look HSC-3 all-carbon fork
Chris King NoThreadSet HS, black
Moots titanium Ahead stem, 13 cm
Kestrel EMS Pro carbon-fiber bar, 44 cm
Campagnolo Chorus titanium seatpost
Selle Italia Flite saddle, titanium rails
Campagnolo Record cranks, 175 mm, 53/39, with titanium crank bolts
Campagnolo Chorus BB
Shimano PD-7750 Dura-Ace "Lance" pedals
Campagnolo Chorus derailleurs (mid-cage rear for versatility, in case I need to add a wide-range cassette for day touring/mountain riding)
Campagnolo Chorus 10-speed Ergopower brake/shift levers
Campagnolo Chorus Differential brakes
Campagnolo Chorus hubs
Campagnolo Record steel/titanium cassette, 12-25
Mavic Open Pro rims, black, 32 hole
Rear spokes are 14/15 double-butted DTs with brass nipples, three-cross
Front spokes are 14/17 double-butted DT Revolutions with alloy nipples, three-cross
Vredestein Fortezza tires, 700x23c
cheapie Sigma Sport computer
Jandd black leather seat bag
Black Trek cage (I don't really ever use water bottles or I would get something swankier)

The bike weighs 18.5 pounds, not bad at all for its size, and rides VERY nicely indeed.

Moots is known for having probably the best welds in the industry - too bad my camera does so poorly in low light! Here are a few more pics:

Crankset - I am ashamed by how dirty my Record rings are!

Cassette, rear der

How much did it cost? I wonder if our trip to see the Tour this summer cost as much, hehe. I'm happy with my low-end Lemond ('98 Reno)... though I am quite capable of drooling over your new ride!

It would retail for around $4,000-4,500. The frame retails for $2,200. I got a good deal by buying the frame, fork, and headset (which retail for about $350 and $100, respectively) used but more or less brand new for $1,500. I spent about $1,500 on the rest of the parts, so altogether I have around $3K in it.

I thought you would get it. I should have used a ;).

I ride a 53 cm.

Me either, I saw the bike and thought " that things a horse!!!" I'm 6'0" and ride a 16" Zaskar:) I know it's too small but I prefer it cause I'm former BMX.

cool bike even though i dont know much. a week ago when i was in rei i saw a mountain bike with disc brakes. it was cool i spun the wheel and the wheel stopped instantly. only thing is when actaully riding wouldnt that cause the bike to just slide out since there is no gradual braking...it just stops

No, you can modulate disc brakes very well, actually. They generally provide better braking, they are much more effective than rim brakes in wet or muddy conditions, and are less prone to fade from the pads overheating. If it were not SO expensive to retrofit them, I would have my MTB equipped with discs. They are reasonably priced when integrated into a new bike, but adding them to a bike without disc brake mounts or disc-compatible hubs would cost at least several hundred dollars.

heh...couldn't resist...nice bike.

One of the best sports in the world.

Nice old Vitus - those are really nice bikes, though I would not really feel confident on a fast descent on a 979 in my size (I don't know that they ever made a bike that big anyway, actually, due to their flexibility). I remember a quote from some '80s pro about one of the very lightweight aluminum or carbon bikes of that era (e.g., Vitus, Alan, or TVT - I think it was TVT): "You can't survive the climbs if you don't have one, and you can't survive the descents if you do!"

Out in the real world, with normal riding under normal conditions, though, the 979 is a great bike. When I worked at a shop, one of our favorite customers had a silver 979 with full Mavic SSC gruppo - really nice old bike, and he rode thousands of miles a year.
