My new ride 2015 Tesla Model S 85D

Ever since I took a Tesla out for a test drive a couple of years ago, I just knew that my next car would have to be one of these.

I originally ordered this for the Wife, but due to political reasons from where she works (She works at United Launch Alliance a direct competitor to SpaceX) I got her a 2015 Audi Q5 TDI instead and this ended up being my car.

This is the new 85D model (not the Performance P85D that's famous right now), though this car still rips. My butt accelerometer pegs this from 0-60 in under 5 seconds (Officially rated at 5.2 seconds but Tesla has always been conservative) and the handling is amazing for how heavy this car is at about 4700lbs. It has almost every option (Tech/Autopilot, Sunroof, Leather, Cold Weather, Dual Charger, Ultra High Fidelity Sound) except the air suspension. I couldn't justify the price premium and the inevitable repair 5 years from now when the air bladders will eventually start to leak.

Here's some pics from picking it from my detailer yesterday, he applied OptiCoat Pro, Optimum Gloss Coat and Opti Leather protection (First time having a car with Tan leather seats and was surprised when my Jeans started turning it blue immediately). But after this guy worked his magic the car looks amazing!

Yeah I did, I bought the Tesla High Powered Wall Connector. I was able to get a full 100 Amp circuit to the charger, so I'm able to add 60 Miles of range per hour so It only takes 2 hours (typical use driving to work and back) to full charge it up.

Seriously? Is that how petty ULA is? SpaceX and Tesla Motors are two different companies.

I was asking because it is getting more easy to charge away from home, but I would imagine it will still be tough (in the short term) to really live with a car like this without a home charger.

A 2-hour charge time is definitely nice. That's not bad at all.

I agree. great car, and nobody at work is going to dock her for buying Tesla. When I worked with Boeing, we flew with whoever it was that offered the cheapest flight that met our specifications. More often than not, I was flying Airbus!

My experience with that company, and some similar to one stated above is not a good one.

Matter a fact, ANY big corp I've dealt with over the years = too big for their own good. Their heads are big, they treat people like sheeet and expect magic.

Without even getting into the enormous amount of politics/bureaucracy they have which essentially stops progress all around (especially on their own end).

I see these companies take MONTHS to do few hours worth of work.....and when it's time for Vendor to deliver, it the other way around. They expect MONTHS worth of work to be done in hours.

I get your perspective, but I prefer to focus on my requirements rather than tech constraints. A 2-hour charge time is still pretty lengthy, honestly, but acceptable. It takes me 15 minutes to fill my gas-tank today....

Mass adoption will be better once we tech that allows for <1hr charge AND batteries that can handle that reliably.

How are the seats? I heard people complaining about the seats in the earlier Tesla Model S's and I wonder if they have improved them any.

With SpaceX upsetting those people's cushy jobs at ULA I can see the hard feelings against Mr. Musk.

At SpaceX the President of the Company is a female engineer. I think Musk cares more about your ability to get the job done than what equipment is between your legs.
