Retro-lookin'
Enclosure during sound test.
Retro goodies.
Non-retro goodies.

I think it helps that my electrical components were actually manufactured about the same time as the radio :p Those are actually hand-me-down LEDs, LED covers, pot, and pushbutton manufactured in the 70's.

In case you can't tell (Sorry, I forgot to take pictures of the actual FRONT of the unit) it's an RCA stereo cabinet with 8-track and record player. It's going to get an MP3 infusion.

Note that my control panel isn't exactly finished, it still needs to be cut SQUARE and painted black (or silver, I havn't decided yet).

Also, see the big mold spot in the pic of the old equipment? How do you clean that sh!t up?

I'm still looking for a way to stealth a DVDROM drive into this. Ideas? Anything else I should do?

Edit for stupid catch phrase that I stole from someone's comment.

Mild update: I need new ideas on a layout for the control panel, I've decided to incorporate some additional controls since I'm cannibalizing 1 and a half joysticks and using 2 whole game ports all told. We now need: 2 pots, 2 LED's, and the pushbutton. I'm thinking that for simplicity's sake, I'll just line it all up in a row.

It's an MP3 player. To the average joe, MP3 player == iPod. If you're willing to furnish the prerequisite 400gb drive and an old iPod, I can do that, too :p

Why clean, then cut it all up, and then clean again, when you can cut, then clean? All I've done to the actual physical unit is remove the rotted backpanel (which I'm going to replace completely). I just finished marking off one of my potentially two DB15 gameport wiring harnasses.

Gonna go scavenge some lumber so I can start mounting the PC boards so I can start running wire and figuring out component placement.

I think your top priority in life at this point should be to cut your hair so you dont like a 40 year old rather than making some electronic gizmo.

Why is it that 90% of AT has no problems with this? Oh yeah, every browser that I've ever used except Safari has a feature to autoscale pictures. (Then again, I am using "iPod" as one of the catchphrases for this thing, so I should expect whiney mac users)

You people really love splitting hairs over a fraction of a second. Next update will include resized pics. That'll be sometime after I figure out how to zip-tie a motherboard to two boards.
