Whatever will you be using this beast for? No, don't answer that! There are only two possible reasons and i don't want to hear the second one ;)
You forgot to include sound dampening headset with that.

Otherwise, you have my blessing to brag about this all over the place :)

Unless you actually would have use for such a machine to earn your living, donate some money to charity and stop donating to yourself. There comes a point when excess becomes sickening.

I got the hard drives at blowout prices (30 drives - $1,200 CDN) - wholesaler going out of business, but other than that I'm just investing a LOT of hard earned savings/money so that I can have a very solid system to do what I need to do for work/pleasure/etc..

I am also praying that vista will recognize all 4 cores which will be out by the time I have the full money to invest..

Other than that, yeah it should be interesting.

What in the world would you do with a rig like that? It looks like something you'd build just to prove it can be done.

I don't know about Vista, but Win XP recognized four cores, atleast for the Xeons. I'm not sure about the Opterons, but I'm sure you won't have a problem. I love the case :), and that RAID controller is going to be awesome. I just can't believe you are water cooling that rig. But then again, with all those components, you are going to have a fun time with airflow.

And you so better post pics when you start building that.

Those Quadro's are really pretty lousy for gaming, from what I've seen.
I'd just go for a good system (7800, dual-core 4000+, etc.) and put the money in the stock market. Then, use the intrest to buy a new computer every year.
It's the gift that keeps on giving!

I believe that is why he wrote "for CAD/Video Editing". Although I am not real sure as to why he is getting two. But hey, whatever floats your boat.

I, on the other hand, do. Even if it is going to drive me into a suicidal depression. ;)
Rough estimate on the price?

Built, last night..

running a beta version of vista, seems to be recongizing *almost* everything. Boots up so fast I almost freak out =p

Haven't put drives in raid yet, but they all seem to be recognized..

Tried encoding some uncompressed video with DiVX format, huge improvement of 4 hours from about 9-10 on my old system..

Older system: Dual Athlon MP 2000, 2 gigs of ram, Nvidia Quadro FX 500 (bought vid card not too long ago)
