Can't wait to get the revolutionary iPhone ???

Wheres the 5 Mega-Pixel Camera with Auto Focus and Flash ?
Wheres the 30 FPS 640x480 video recording ?
Wheres the GPS and turn by turn directions ?
Wheres the wireless stereo and A2DP bluetooth ?
Wheres the IM clients ?
Wheres the second camera ?
Wheres the MMS support ?
Wheres the 1000's of streaming audio stations ?
Wheres the one-touch dialing ?
Wheres the VOIP internet calling ?
Wheres the video-out !?

Oh yeah... but I bet the N95 can't find calamari or a seafood restaurant, play youtube videos, play music, play games, make a call, run AJAX apps...... oh wait, IT CAN DO ALL OF THAT TOO !?

The true phone of the future is the Nokia N95....

Let the flaming begin.

Imagine an iphone w/ 3rd party software, text messenging, GPS, and 3G, and expandable memory. That would just about be the most perfect phone ever. Or a thinner version of the N95 w/ a touch screen.

Thats the thing, just imagine. Windows Mobile and Symbian and Palm have been doing pretty much everything the iphone does for years, but the iphone is the revolutionary device? Dont get me wrong, the iphone is a slick device, and hopefully as it matures, it will be on the same level as Blackberry, Symbian, and Windows Mobile OS phones.

You forget to mention batt life sucks every review says so, GPS is slow as hell and it costs $900..sure it's a decent phone but dont make it out like nirvana. Personally I just want a phone you can drop from two stories and can talk 48 hrs straight...nothing fits the bill.

The point is ? and nearly every review has made this clear ? while the iPhone does nothing overly new per-se, it's a phone/PDA/device that people actually want to use. Sure, Windows Mobile and Palm may have had all the features, but why do you think they aren't exactly wildly popular? I for one wouldn't touch one with a ten foot pole, and most people would agree. They just aren't nice to use.

You could claim that feature-wise other (high-end imported, for example) phones are better than the iPhone, but in terms of what really matters in a phone ? usability ? the iPhone is easily on top.

No, it's not perfect, not even close, but it seems to do what no other mobile device (the term is almost dirty, most devices are that bad) can: make a mobile phone actually enjoyable to use.

the N95 looks like the best cellphone you can buy in the states, but for $900 i think you have to be a nut to buy one. no matter what it does, its your phone. that thing that gets dropped lost and beaten on constantly. 900 bones for a disposable device? sorry. the pictures look amazing though, but i have a feeling that you had to REALLY keep that phone still while taking pics that clear. surely you had the phone rested up against something, and not free-handing it?

if you buy directly from nokia then its probably 900 dollars...
if you go to private cell phone shops then the price should be around 700

In the UK it's free with a 12mo £35/mo ($70)mo contract.
I don't forsee the iPhone being free with any contract.

this was my old phone, Text excellent ringer, and mic, great reception, did all things a phone needed to do was tiny, light, and could be dropped repeatedly without a worry. unfortunately the connector for recharging broke, and i had to move on. i miss it so and i despise all these damn phones that are out nowadays.

There is no phone out there that you can drop from two stories and still be working. I don't think there is a single product out there that is reasonably priced that actually can do that. Why do you need to talk 48 hours straight? I don't think that the person on the other side of the call can keep up a conversation for that long. People nowadays recharge their phone every night anyways, so as long as the phone can survive for the day that's good enough for most people.

The N95 is a good phone, but you are forgetting that here in the U.S. no one carries the N95 and you have to buy it seperately with no subsidaries.

The old Motos (e.g. Motorola i35s), Ericsson R250 among others you could throw though glass from the second story hit the pavment below and they would work fine. Plus they had ~ 2000maH batteries which lasted a week easy. As far as 48 hours straight I was exaggerating but I spend all day on the phone and many times before day is done phone runs out. What I need is a tough phone with long battery life...not GPS - my car has that already, not a crappy camera or a crappy mp3 player but a phone you can carry out and about and not worry if you drop it or talking on it. Phones today have 'features' which drain them and it's debatable how useful the 'phone' part really is. Anyone who leads an active lifestyle or just like to take vacations to the seashore will find this to be true where dirt, dust, moisture, sand, banging and jostling play muder on todays phones.

N95 is made by Nokia, I don't care about all the features it has it's still a "Nokia" enough said...

to OP lets see your phone change from landscape to portrait when you rotate it. is yours touch screen?

you basically paid way more for your phone over an Iphone and all it has is ummm a much better camera, that's still subpar compared to even a $200 P&S digicam A2DP bluetooth is wack, my Q has it and I've used the most uber wireless bluetooth stereo headphones on the market and the quality is about on par with the Jensen walkman tape player I had 20 years ago, actually the Jensen was MUCH better. Anyone care to explain why A2DP is anything to even care about?

VGA video recording is a gimmick, it doesn't have any type of image stabilization and the audio quality is piss poor. It's a huge step up from the typical cell phones video, but it's still a joke.

second camera? useless, that's just there to jack up the price. This is actually the lamest feature I've seen. I can't wait till Motorola or Samsung tries to one up Nokia and releases a phone with 5 cameras.

Iphone supports email right? if I email somebody with an Iphone a picture or audio they can play it right off their phone. And I can't speak for any network except Verizon, but if you email me at my#@vwzpix.com I get it just like an MMS, so the Iphone has no direct MMS support but using Email you can do the exact same thing?

one touch dialing will be offered in a software update for the iPhone

VOIP internet calling on a phone is useless

The n95 isn't the future of anything, it's a phone where they tried to add everything in the world and market it as a uber all in one. When the n95 has a higher resolution, bigger screen and can import my cover art from iTunes let me know. The iPhone is about function and it does it perfectly.

Well, Nokia is still the #1 cell phone manufacturer in the world. Im sure their easy to use and feature packed phones at decent prices have nothing to do with that.

Lets see your pretty phone screen in 6 months after its scratched up from comming in and out of you pocket 20 times a day. Or lets see you change your battery without either sending your phone into apple or voiding your warentee by doing it yourself.

A2DP sucks on your Q and window mobile in general because of the microsoft bluetooth stack, not because of A2DP. MS has fixed it in WM6, but Nokia has done it right since day 1.

AT&T/Cingular advertises they have the least droped calls (which has been disproven, btw). It would only be because in many areas they are at capacity and many customers cant even initiate a call without getting the dreaded 'all circuits busy' message. At least Tmobile has recognized that voip technology can help aleviate some traffic from the cell network by routing calls thru VOIP. Whats cool about that is, if you've got wifi, you can make a call from anywhere in the world and it wont cost anymore than a call from home. Well, at least with the iphone you can unlock it and buy a local sim so you dont have to pay extravagent roaming fees. Whats that, you cant unlock it and use a local sim? Guess you're gonna be paying $.99-$4.99/min for international calls.

Though I have no numbers, the vast majority of MMS messages go between cell phone users. Your friends/family with regular cell phones wont be able to send you MMS messages from regular cell phones because your phone wont recognize them. And I'm not aware of a single 'dumb' phone that can send mms via email. Likewise, they wont be able to open an attachment on their normal cell phone if you send it from your iphone as an email.

That 2nd camera may be useless now because of the lack of 3g avalibility, but in many parts of the world, you can use that front facing camera to make a video call. Sure, it's kinda gimmicky, but so was the internet on your phone just a few years ago, and now its everywhere.

As far as I see it, the greatest thing about the iphone is its brought the conveniences that us power users have had for years in a easy to use package. The iphone is no end all be all device. If you think that, you need to put Steve's kool aid down.

Nokia is #1, like you said because they make easy to use phones that are inexpensive. But they range from ok to straight horrible. Then on the other end of the spectrum they make phones like the N52 which cost more than a Laptop. If features and ease of use are all you care about go with Nokia, if you want a quality phone, don't.

actually the iPhone has without a doubt the best screen in terms of scratch resistance, it's made of optic glass, aside from a flip phone where the screen is covered there's nothing better.

The battery thing, I believe is being blown out of proportion, every phone I've owned has claimed the battery will last me 1-2 years, I've had phones 3 years and never replaced the battery. Even if I you have to do it once every 2 years that's not bad, and probably a non issue because people upgrade phones by that time, even if they've droped $500-$600 on it.
I paid $420 for my Q and I'm going to get a new phone as soon as my contract up. Motorola phones almost make me wish I had a Nokia :)

A2DP sucks period because Bluetooth isn't good for stereo audio, I don't care how great the BT implementation is, it's still going to produce incredibly piss poor sound.

I don't have AT&T they suck in my area, Verizon has the best network period.

2nd camera is useless regardless how you look at it, my CRAPPY Samsung A500 has a swivel lenses where I could rotate it 180 and use it in the front or the back of the camera, there's no reason to have 2 cameras. Samsung is about a half a step behind Nokia for crappiness of their phone.

the only 2 things I like about the iPhone are the interface and the glass the screen is made out of.

Have you even used A2DP from other cell phones? IE: Nokia or Sony Ericsson?
And which headphones did you use? Motorola ones? Motorola has got to be one of the worst cell phone manufacturers there are.

I've used A2DP on friends phones thinking maybe it was mine. Quality was better, but if you polish a turd, it's still a turd :)

don't know model #'s but I used my friends Jabras, another had the Nokia ones, and I foolishly bought (and returned the same day) the Motorola ones.

and my neighbor has the Parrot BT Speakers, he paid a bundle for them. Sound quality is decent considering it's across BT.

as far as Motorola being the worst cell phone manufacture there is, close. But Nokia easily takes the cake. I do however LOVE my Nokia BT headset :)

I just went from a 1G iphone to a N95-3 and got the N95-3 yesterday and already love it,just have to get used to the layout of everything.

Only issue I am having is getting my MPG4 videos to play on it ?

I tried d/l them via WMP but it will not import the videos from my HDD,then I tried removing the Micro card and transferring via a reader / writer,no luck...then I tried to do a data transfer w/ same results.

So I am off to howard forums to try to find an answer ...now if they would hurry up w/ the 32mb Micro sdhc....:p

This is supported by buying a cable from Apple:
Wheres the video-out !?

These are supported by 3rd party apps (ie. hack your iPhone):
Wheres the 30 FPS 640x480 video recording ?
Wheres the IM clients ?
Wheres the 1000's of streaming audio stations ?
Wheres the VOIP internet calling ?

I can do Shoutcase audio, IM with all the main IM clients, record VGA video, and make both Skype and SIP phone calls on my iPhone. The hack is just a couple of clicks of a free app and hasn't affected the stability of my phone at all.

All that said, I think the N95 (and even more the upcoming N96) is a really, really nice phone. I've never been sure why the iPhone gets all the attention that it does and why no one in the media spends much time talking about the N95. In my case, the N95 was outside my budget at the time that I bought my iPhone, but if it had been around $300-400 last autumn, I'd be an N95 owner as well.

The N95 solves a lot of the more frustrating things that I don't like about my iPhone, although I like the much higher screen resolution and the interface on the iPhone better than the N95.

The reason the N95 doesn't get the hype is simple: Marketing. Nokia doesn't market it here at ALL, and they don't sell it through carriers so you can't pick it up at your local AT&T/Tmobile store. In fact, they weren't even going to make a US version, until enough people from the US imported the EU version.

Thats because we get all the bubblegum - kiddie crap and europe gets all the kickass phones....

So far the only thing iphone has on the n95-3 is a bit bigger screen and easier - better websurfing + typing but the nokia has so much mover over them few details and I am sure will find even more once I discover everything it can do.

I even found out today My N95-3 syncs with my media center laptop and can control it as well,so it gives the option to play the song / movie on the laptop or the phone......how freakin cool is that....

I personally think typing is better on the N95. I hate the keyboard on the iPhone. And the bigger screen is good for browsing in the iPhone, but the browser itself is no better.
