Decent workout would be a regular bike.

you don't understand the concept of a pedelec

I still have to pedal to keep moving, the electric motor is there to assist which translate in higher average speed, which means I can do a 70 mile commutes and have a good workout

That's pretty cool. I just bought a conversion kit for a bike from Currie for $300. I have only ridden down the battery twice (just put it on an old bike over the weekend). It's max speed is the same max speed as the bike was normally, of about 16. Not sure on actual range yet, but I would estimate it at > 5 miles so far.

I'll do a proper review once I ride it more.

nice, I also had a look at some conversion kits

I understand just fine. It reduces the amount of work you have to do to go a certain distance. So it decreases the workout you get vs. a regular bike.

That is pretty sweet. I have a hard enough time trying to make a sale on $500-$700 kits. Couldn't imagine getting someone to pay $7100 for an ebike.

Everything.

Going 70 miles on my road bike if I can average 17 mph I'm in pretty good shape, and it still takes several hours. If he can average 25 mph with the electric assist that's a huge difference. If you are not a professional rider even coming close to that is going to be very difficult.

That's pretty cool.. How fast would you be going if you just pedaled in a relaxed state? 70 miles is pretty awesome in my opinion.

It makes a ton of sense for Holland, a country that has $10-$11 a gallon gas. Also, I'm not sure if I missed it, but how much did this cost you if you don't mind me asking?

so are you drenched in sweat when you get in to work? also are you too tired after work sometimes to bike 35 miles home?

The seat angle should be horizontal. 🙂
must be the angle of the pic, it is horizontal 🙂

Must be the pic... really doesn't look it...

not really and we have showers at work, I also have clean clothes at work
no, I sit at a desk, the ride back home is a way to clear my mind and relax and leave the stress of work behind.

relax is like 25 km/h
bike costs 5k euro

totally right, I'm a pretty fit cyclist, on my road bike I can average between 17 mph and 20 mph for long distances. The problem is time, I needed something that gave me a higher avg speed for the same input because of a 70 mile commute.

Very cool. That's a great looking bike, and the tech is amazing. A little spendy, but I'd consider getting one if my circumstances warranted it. How expensive is maintenance? Are there expensive parts that routinely go up?

the only expensive part that needs to be replaced every couple of years is the lithium ion battery. The drive train is sealed and electric motors are pretty much maintenance free. Other parts are high end standard bicycle parts (shimano gears, disc brakes, ...) Of course I will only know in the future, I'm probably one of the first driving one of these in Belgium. The maker of my bike was featured in Jay Leno, I have the cheaper version but with the same electronics and battery 🙂

a full charge is around 20 eurocents

There is a great American manufacturer of high end electric bikes, I considered importing one but I could not get it insured because of the paperwork

I like the looks of your bike compared to the Optibike. I won't bother comparing detailed specs since I'm not in the market, but based on looks alone, I'd get your bike :^)
