So I just got this week 30A E6600 from Newegg and this is what happens when I overclock it:

445 X 9 = 4.06ghz 1.4375 In Bios (1.48 P5WDG2 WS Pro)
RAM 1:1

This CPU's heatspreader looks very different than others I've owned. It has "funny looking edges"

Idles @ 37c with a Thermailright Ultra 120!

NICE!!!!!! Air or water?

I just got a week29A E6300....

It post into windows at 7x500, w/ cas 4-4-4-12 1000ddr2, w/ 1.375v set in bios...

Board is only F5 bios but it acts quirky in the sense it will post at 1.35v at 7x500 but anything past that will have issues booting..I am talk 3fsb...all the way up 1.55v and cas timings to 5-5-5-15..no matter the vdimm...no matter anything...BIG WALL....

I swapped PSU units and nothing.....

I will flash to F6 then try to OC in windows if uit will let me....

Very nice results. Is that "booting into Windows" stable , Orthos stable, SuperPi stable??

Considering the lack of the aforementioned stability tests in his pic, i think we know the answer to that.

Though vcore isn't that high, so if he bumps that up he might just be able to get it close to stable.

I don't think anyone can run orthos beyond 3.8ghz on AIR.

Temperatures get out of hand @ those speeds.

I can run Super PI with no problem, but 3dmark 06 will crash with this voltage. I need to feed it a little more to make it more stable.

@ 4.06ghz Quickpar 100% CPU utilization (both cores), temperatures jump to 55-65!

Probably want better cooling then?

seems your rig is bit hot, maybe add some nice case fan to blow more air over CPU section to lower that temp.

LOL guys...

55-65C is nothing. We aren't talking A64s here. Different temp measurement system remember?

I'm surprised the OP is worried about those temps. They're pretty low for a high OC on air cooling like that.

65C on actual cpu starts to get a bit hot. 4.06 ghz on air starts to be a pretty good overclock though. That voltage is pretty low for what you are asking for. At -20 I could do 4 GHZ stable at 1.5 on that board.

why do people give a flying monkey crap if its stable doing math no one does.. if it runs the programs you want without crashing then guess what... its stable :)

im just kinda tired of people saying that its not a "real overclock" unless it passes prime95 or whatever... ive got a A64 at 2.3GHz that was a 1.8GHz and im at stock voltage on my Dual939-SATA2... id go farther but i dont have a SATA lock.

No, it would not be stable. Lets say you play 2 games. Game 1 you've been playing for about 2 weeks without any problem. You get game 2 and it starts crashing every 15 minutes. Would you still dismiss the fact that a dual Prime95 test was failing within 5 minutes prior to all that? I know I wouldn't be. If it fails then your system is not stable.

This is exactly the reason Orthos/Prime's so nice. It lets you check stability for the long run. Personally, I like to see 24 hr orthos w/ rthdribl or 3dmark. It seems excessive, but I never have to worry about my rig crashing later on down the road.
