Sheesh! And I've been using my 86 TA as a beater car.

Too bad it wasn't a 350. I remember the 305 in my best friend's Caprice Classic. I know the Caprice was a boat, but F-Bodies are still pigs to be pushing around anything else.

O RLY?

You asshat thats dirt on a white car 😛😛😛😛
I parked on the left side of the road today when I picked up my son and it happened to be on the shoulder where it was muddy from all the rain we had.
Try again 😛

Or do you want me to hobble out to the car tomorrow and take a close up of dirt for you?
While I am at it would you like for me to jack up the car and take pictures of the under carrage as well. I mean really why the fvck would I lie??

Doubtful. The V8 SHO was a pile.

Actually the SHO was quite a bit faster but it also had quite a bit bigger repair bill to fix as well hence why I ditched it for a more reasonalbe car that would be easier on the pocket book.

If the engine ever died on the SHO it is a minimum $11K for a new engine and to find a decent working used engine forget it. Then if you want to change the plugs the entire top half of the motor has to be removed to get at the back 4 plugs. I loved the SHO it was classy and super fast but Im not rich enough to keep it and have to pay someone to fix it. Atleast with the Firebird the parts are cheap, easy to work on, and since it is so old not many computer controlled parts to fail and have to have replaced. Shoot if the fuel injection dies I can rip it all off and put a new intake and carb on her and still drive it. Cant do that with any of the cars today 😉

Its all about the gearing. The Caprice wasnt designed to be a sports car so of course it was slower. I had a 87 Firebird Formula when I was a teen with the 350 and this one isnt that far off to tell the truth. At some point when the engine goes I wil lbe dumping a modded 350 under the hood though 🙂

Nice find!

Should the injection system fail, (Or if you just want a cheap upgrade) you could always do a TPI swap...just find the harness, complete injection system, and ECM (not hard) and you'd be good.

TBI system is a lot simpler, but TPI system is a lot more fun 🙂

Nah I will just change the cam and do a 4brl carb instead for less computerized bs to fail. I still live in the past and like a good old carbed vehicle. Nothing like the sound of the massive secondaries opening up and the engine screaming IMO.

Back in the day every v8 4brl carbed car I owned the first thing I did after paying for it was turn the air cleaner top upside down just so I can hear that noise scream from under the hood. Too bad most of the kids here reading this cannot relate and I am sorry the crappy noise you hear from your ricer in no way sounds as good as a v8 chevy sucking sound when wide open 😀

Why did you Sell your SHO?
I'm actually planning to pickup an 89 MTX SHO this weekend.

You had better have deep pockets then to have it fixed if anything should fail.
The engine alone costs a ton to have replaced because it is not your everyday Taurus run of the mill engine. It was built by Yamaha racing and if it goes new is over $10K and used you may as well forget it.

See all thoes pipes there. It will all have to be removed if you ever need to get at the injectors or the back 3 spark plugs or coil packs.

The v8 versions are even worse. All that extra labor is going to cost alot. Parts because they only go to the SHO are going to be a ton. What would normally take a person about a hour to rplace cap, rotor, wires, and plugs to do will take you 3-4 hours just to get at the back plugs then another 4 hours to put it all back together.

But dont get me wrong though if your rich and can afford to keep her running you are in for one hell of a ride because they are by far alot of fun to drive but it will cost you if anything should ever fail on the car.

I was planning to swap the engine from a 3.2 ATX SHO. As far as maintence goes I really don't have a problem paying for the parts since I already own another car. I know the car needs a lot of maintence but I never heard that the parts are really expensive.

Good find!
As long as you were able to sell your SHO without getting ripped off, I think you did well.

The F body Trans Ams and Cameros are sweet cars. If they are fixed up real nice then its definately cool to have one. Yours has t-tops which makes it even cooler. I think considering how new everything on that car is, and how new it looks, you got a good deal at $2000. The reason you got it for so cheap is because for some reason there isnt that much of a market for F body cameros and firebirds right now. Recently, my friend sold a 87' v6 camero that ran, but only could get $300 for it.

SHOs are pretty expensive to maintain I hear. I had a friend who had a 93' SHO and got rid of it just for that reason, due to repair costs. If you don't have mechanical skills I'd imagine the labor costs on that kind of car would add up after awhile.

Besides you had a V8 SHO, which wasnt as cool as the V6 SHO, so u definately made a good move in getting rid of it 🙂

Yeah I did more then fine selling the SHO. I got $3300 for it. And even if your mechanicaly inclined, which I am, it still costs alot just for the SHO parts not to mention is a time killer trying to replace some of the parts in that tight ass engine compartment.

There is a huge market for the F-Body cameros and Firebirds but only if they are in perfect condition. If I was to sell mine with the headliner gone it would fetch $5k easily. I am willing to bet that your friend got $300 for his because of the condition and anyone looking for one they will only want the V8 over the crappy 6. I know if this car even with as good as it looked had a V6 I would never of bought it. To me its like a fake sports car or a woman with fake breasts. That even goes for the late modee ones too. IMO you dont buy these for the looks only but for the fact they can haul ass and leave patch marks at will and look good doing it. You can always tell which had the v8 and which had the 6 just looking at the rear exhaust. The 6 got a single pipe out the back where the rear got the fake duals 😉
