BTW: I am by no means anti-skydiving, I have done enough of it in my life.
If there was a group of people who really couldn't be happy in life with wearing a seatbelt yes! But that isn't your argument - yours is merely "The government said I can't do it, so I will do it".

There is no such group of people as far as I know. If being forced to wear a seatbelt has that much of an impact on your overall happiness then I say you have far greater problems than just seatbelts.

If overindulging in food has that much of an impact on anyone's overall happiness then they have a far greater problem than I. So we should ration the number of calories you are allowed to have as a citizen of the US. You so willingly give up your independance yet you question my pursuit of happiness? That is ironic.

Well I read through the whole thread before replying and although I'd like to reply to most of yous posts I won't. Most of us that reply to threads do so in the mood that we are in at the time so I won't bash Wink for his I'll just go with the thought that he was in a "sassy" mood at the time and realize that most everyone has been taught throughout their lifetime that if you do things that you are shown/taught will cause harm to you if done that you deserve what you get and he was just going on that train of thought. You know the old "haha see what you get" same here it's just someones life that was lost and not a burned finger. But as Forrest said, "Stupid is as stupid does" and most would agree that not wearing a belt is not intelligent.

But this

I sure hope it wasn't a DUI for him. If would make his suffering even worse to know that he killed his wife by drinking and driving.

I don't think that will be the case. It was late Sunday evening and they were coming home from shopping at the Flea Market.

Heard something that he he reached back behind the seat for a second is what he said and it happened to be right at the curve with an 80 foot drop. The SUV rolled over several times flinging them out as it flipped.

and not wearing a seatbelt is what apparently cost this woman her life. A flipping SUV did not cost her her life, being thrown from a flipping SUV because she didn't have a belt on cost her that. The blame is squarley on her and her husband. And although there is no law against stupidity(posts on this forum proves that;P) there is such a thing as, careless and wreckless, and reaching behind the seat going down the road is that. Yes he is experiencing a great loss but that doesn't mean that we should throw out all laws and "leave it at that". If he's not charged with something like this then it's solely because emotion won out over rule of law although we have given the ones that enforce our laws some latitude when deciding who to charge and if he's not then I wouldn't object.

FRDM you are the only one out of the whole thread that I'd label a dumbass and it's solely for this stance,

"I don't like the govment trying to save my life therefore I'm going to kill myself".

You're a fvcking winner d00d!

In the end I hate she died but I have to say it should have been expected and not a shock.

Just remember I put my life at risk on many occasions so that you would have the right to say that.

9-24-2003 I drove by the spot where it happened. It is only a maybe 4 foot drop off at the curve however there is no way any vehicle could recover and get back on the road at this point. Also absolutely sure any wreck at this point with passengers wearing seat belts would be survivable.

I will go back and put a Roadside Cross with her name on it as soon as I put it together.

Am I heartless? Maybe. Am I alive? Yes, because I'm smart enough to wear my seatbelt. Natural selection is a bitch isn't it?

It sucks to be them but they weren't wearing seatbelts. Some lessons are expensive to learn.

If it was a guy on a motorcycle w/o a helmet most of you sympathetic people would have been saying the guy was an idiot/fool for not wearing a helmet.

Exactly. Double standards. Anyone remember the thread posted by the guy whose Accord got hit by a biker? Did the biker get any sympathy? I seem to recall everyone saying he deserved what he got.

Well, also, in that case, the guy on the motorcycle was RACING with another motorcyclist.

Sadly, this comes to late for my neighbor.

10-8-2003 U.S. Begins New Vehicle Rollover Tests

The highway traffic safety administration is a year late in unveiling protocols for testing at its East Liberty, Ohio, research facility and developing the formula for analyzing the data and presenting it to consumers.

Government figures for all vehicles show that 10,000 people were killed in rollover crashes in 2002, up 5 percent from the previous year. SUV rollover deaths were up 14 percent to more than 2,400.

Rollovers accounted for more than a third of overall traffic fatalities and 22 percent of deaths in passenger cars, 45 percent in pickups and 61 percent of fatalities in sport utility vehicles. Most victims were not wearing seatbelts.

What is it about SUV's that people don't wear a seatbelt in them???
