Gainesville woman killed in Jackson County wreck

They only had the SUV for about 2 months. She was such a hard working, sweet person :(

Edit: Please people, this is a horrible lesson. Seatbelts save lives.

I added "Mandatory debate" to Thread Title. This should Technically be in the P&N Forum area.

My Dad refuses to wear a seatbelt even after seeing what happened to our Neighbor while he was here.

My wife Donna actually got a $50 Ticket a couple of weeks ago at a City of Atlanta Seatbelt Checkpoint in the Buckhead district, she normally wears her belt but just left her work parking deck and was only going around a city block for lunch and forgot to put in on. Her passenger did buckle up and did not get a ticket.

Here is my take on this. I was a Fireman for 8 years in New York and saw a lot of MVA's (Motor Vehicle Accidents). Even recently have attended to Wreck victims when Donna and I have seen wrecks happen in front of us and I went to the aid of a driver that was thrown from a car not wearing a seltbelt, he was also drunk and survived the wreck. As soon as I saw he was fine and all the beer cans flowing all over the place I left him for the Police to take care of.

I always buckle up. I however feel it is up to the people in the Vehicle to make the Choice and not a Government checkpoint. It is not likely Donna would've died if gotten into a wreck on the city street that is bumper to bumper at 5 MPH. Doing 70 on the Interstate or even 55MPH on a winding 2 Lane Country highway like my neighbors is a different story.

When they say charges are pending, do they mean after losing his wife and being injured, the cops are going to charge this guy with not wearing seatbelt?

My wife and I and other neighbors are in shock. Not sure what we are supposed to do even.

Her Mother came from out of State and took her back for the Funeral.

His brother is with him in ICU. Only family can see him in ICU. He is concious and talking and knows that she didn't make it.

No kids, she wanted to have kids though. She had her little dog with her, they found the dog under the SUV the next day and it was OK after they freed her. They took the dog out of State too. They have 2 other dogs in the fenced yard area that friends came by and fed them today.

She was riding in the car, which means her husband (an assumption?) must have been driving. This was a single-car accident, the most common causes of those are either reckless driving or DUI.
Really sucks she wasn't wearing her seatbelt... I just can't fscking understand people who don't wear their seatbelt. They had a multiple fatality head-on accident on US26 east of Portland a month or so back in which 5 people died. Every single one of the dead wasn't wearing their belt, and all the survivors were wearing theirs.

Sorry to hear about this, Dave. Such a senseless tragedy... :(

Me wonder if the seat belt would of saved her life.

Someone said that she never wore a seatbelt but Charlie normally has one on. He may not have had it on because he was riding with her this time and was so close to home?

I'm sure they wouldn't have been thrown from the SUV and run over by it if they had the belts on.

Forgive me if i sound like an idiot, but the dog survived?

I sure hope it wasn't a DUI for him. If would make his suffering even worse to know that he killed his wife by drinking and driving.

I'm not sure. I heard her mother took both dogs back out of State but didn't hear if the dog that was at the scene that they found the next day was alive. I will try and find out. She had 2 tiny dogs in the house and Charlie 2 big dogs in the yard.

I don't think that will be the case. It was late Sunday evening and they were coming home from shopping at the Flea Market.

Heard something that he he reached back behind the seat for a second is what he said and it happened to be right at the curve with an 80 foot drop. The SUV rolled over several times flinging them out as it flipped.

Edit: 9-24-2003 I drove over to the spot where it happened today. There is only a slight maybe 4 foot drop off the curve of the road but if any vehicle goes off the road here there is no way for it to get back on the road. Absolutley no doubt that the wreck would be survivable if seat belts were on.

I will put a Roadside cross there with her name.

36 years old and she still coudln't take the 5 seconds to put on her seat belt. Too late to learn that lesson I guess.

You are a dickhead for even saying that. Unbelievable what complete, anal passageways we have for humans sometimes.

I gotta wonder if people who have that kind of attitude ever lost someone in their life.

Buckle Up. It's the law.

It would have most likely saved her life as well, as the article says she was ejected from the vehicle. People can survive rollovers in modern SUVs, but once you fly out of that steel safety cage, you're chances to survive dwindle.
