my street is getting paved (whoo hooo!!!) anyway they put down a layer of asphalt on friday and on sat the crews were back to put another layer. well since my street is the only one in the neighborhood that is paved now i have seen kids i have never seen before riding their bikes and racing up and down.

well on sat the kids were out again and my wife heard the guys running the big ass rollers and other various forms of heavy equipment used in paving streets telling the kids to go someplace else. and some of them do.

well i get home about 2 or so and the crews are still out there but one block up. im in my driveway and one kid keeps riding his bike up and down the street but stopping where the crews are. So not wanting any kids to get hurt i tell the kid (8-9 year old boy) to go ride someplace else until the crews are done.

he says they arent working here.

so i say it doesnt matter they are still working and they are going down to the dead end from time to time. so he rides off.

i go inside for a few min then go back out to start mowing. the kid is back and doing circles in front of my driveway eyeballing me. i ignore it for a bit but its really hitting a nerve. so i ask him if he understood english.

his response was. I dont have too.
me: :Q
me: excuse me?
him: i dont have to listen to you, my dad said.
me : :|
me: look kid i dont care waht your dad said, its not safe for you to ride here right now. so ride someplace else until the workers are gone then you can come back.
him: my dad said i dont have to listen to you.
me: :| :|
me: Go someplace else and if your dad has a problem with that tell him to come talk to me.

The little sh*t rides off. so i start mowing my yard.

well sure enough dad shows up.

dad: yougot a problem with my boy?
me: no, but i do have a problem with him riding his bike and getting int he way of the construction equipment.
him: dont tell my boy what to do ever again.
me: :|
me: look pal, i dont know where you live but its obvious that you have no idea where he is or what he is doing. its obvious that you dont care about his safety or you would tell him to stop riding here and just wait until the crew is gone. is it that hard to understand?
him: he is fine but im waring you dont tell my boy what to do.
me: :| :| :|
me: tell you what pal. your kid was the only one out here all the other kids were smart enough to move along. even my kids are not out right now but they will be when the crews are gone for the day.
him: did you hear what i said?
me: I did but you didnt hear what i said so this conversation is over and get the f*ck out of my yard. and i start up the lawnmower and continue mowing and he leaves.

what a f*ck tard.

well unless he was on your property, he's right, his kid doesn't have to listen to you.

but it does sound like him and his kid are pricks since you were only trying to be nice. but you really shouldn't have told him a 2nd time unless he was on your property, because he's right, you aren't his dad and he doesn't have to listen to you.

What a tool. He needs to get over himself and realize that you were just concerned for his son's safety.

I think you handled that perfectly. I don't think I would have done it any differently. Hopefully that boy learns his lesson as well as his father.

When I read that, the only picture of your neighbor that came to mind is a fat bald guy wearing a wife-beater, holding a beer, and sucking on a half burned smoke.

One of those idiots that gets more caught up on the whole "I'm the only one who tells the kid what to do" than on the safety of the kid. Who cares who's telling the kid, it's for his own safety. Dad should have realized it and said "hey, thanks for looking out for my kid". Obviously, he's an idiot.

Well, Ive said it other threads. It all comes back to parenting. I used to get called out all the time growing up when I was out of line. Now parents just get indignant about it.

Lets trust in the government and government schools to raise our kids for us. No parenting skills required.

Meh. When my neighbor smarted off to me I kicked his ass in the street. His wife called the cops but since the guy had come to my house to cause trouble they just advised my on how to get a restraining order.

While your intentions were good, you overstepped your boundaries. Told the kid what to do once, he obviously relayed the message to his father, his father overrode your instructions and the kid did was his father told him to do. MYOFB.

Meh. Let him get steamrolled. Less genetic pollutants. You warned them, and explained your concerns perfectly. If they have the knowledge and refuse to be cautious, let Darwinian law be applied.

That kid is going to have an "accident" on your property and then his daddy will have a new house.

Let him get run over by the equpment.

about 10 feet. you knows those big machines with like 8 wheels on the front and back to mash down asphalt? they were going up and down doing their mashing thing and the kid would stop in the middle of the road and sit there.

i should have taken a picture.
