If you had kids who were doing something obviously dangerous to their safety, wouldn't you appreciated if a kind neighbor exercised some adult authority over them? Jesus H. Christ, we've become a nation of "all about me"'s. Sure, it is your right to tell your children what to do, but damn it sometimes they just don't have any sense when you are not around, that's when the good neighbor comes in handy.
I can't tell you how many times I've gotten myself into trouble and had a neighbor not been there to smack me out of it, I probably would have gotten myself into some serious crap. Now if the OP was verbally abusive and antagonistic towards the kid for no reason, I would understand the dad for being pissed off.
I hope those of you who said MYOB don't have children.
