Now Mazda wouldn't put in an interval that was harmful for my car, so should I end up waiting six months....but is there anything wrong with waiting six months for an oil change if mazda says that that's what you're supposed to do?

Very common in newer vehicles to have oil every 6mo/6k-7.5k miles. Don't worry about it.

Ditto.

i hate how these oild change places say, "3000 miles, 3000 miles, or your car will explode!!!" thats just rediculous. thats why the price of oil is so high. cars have been 5000 miles for 15 years or more.

My Mazda 5 is 5000 miles.
Its been running fine for 46 thousand now.
I do exactly as the manual says. No problems.

How could you have done 46k mi on a Mazda 5?? i thought the car is just released a few months ago.

anyway I change oil for my Mazda 6s every 5k mi because 5k is easy to keep track of.

Mazda Protege5;)

What he said.

Although, I still stick to the 3k mile service just because.

Congratulations. Oil companies love people like you. :)

some do have special additives... I know honda uses a special oil out of the factory. However, mazda uses plain only semi-syn motocraft for these babies. And 5w30 ain't gunna do much other than hurt mileage a little. Besides, mobile's 5w30 is a very thin 30, close to a 20

Nobody can really predict when an oil will break down, so why not change it at a safe interval?

You don't want to take any chances with oil sludge...
