My impressions of thr Skyrocket after having an iphone 4

autocorrect is dictated by the keyboard, and there are assloads of android keyboards... what have you tried?

I didn't know autocorrect was specific to the keyboard. I've only used the one that comes with the phone. Does a different keyboard change the responsiveness of accuracy? I was good at typing on the iPhone even with the smaller screen and now I'm making lots of mistakes and hitting the wrong keys.

Keyboard is replaceable which is the nice part. As for the display, I think that's preference. I'll take a SAMOLED screen any day.

Yes. Every keyboard is it's own program including autocorrect. Try different ones until you find what works for you. I prefer swype and others hate it. Swiftkey X is very popular also.

Being used to the iPhones small screen is probably one of the reasons you are making more mistakes on the new phone. It took me a while to get used to typing on my 4.3" Galaxy S2 after being used to my 4" Captivate.

If you want good auto correct/ predictive text get Swiftkey X from the market.

If you cared about pixel density and resolution you should have picked the Nitro HD over the Skyrocket but other than the Super AMOLED display on the Skyrocket is technically superior to the iPhone's.

Well you went from a "retina" screen to a not retina screen. That said I went from an iphone 4 to an Atrix and finally a galaxy s 2 (non skyrocket) and love the GS2 screen. I don't really notice the pixels and everything else about it is great.

I came from iPhone 4 to SGS2 (international). I prefer the Super AMOLED Plus screen, I'll be happier when SGS3 has 720p. As for keyboard, I prefer Android keyboard (Thumb Keyboard in this case), auto-correct, SwiftKey X is better than iPhone.

I dunno, I find swiftkey had prediction same or better than iPhone, but then. Even then, I rather use Thumb Keyboard because I type a lot more accurately on that, even without prediction.

I've used Android Keyboard, Samsung, Swiftkey, and none of those are as good as the iPhones.
I had the Galaxy S and it was aweful. Makes me not want to use Android just because of the keyboard.(part of that is the slow SoC).
When I got the G2x, my typing experience with Android jumped 10x.
I just had the Galaxy II and even with the 4.6" screen, still not good as the IP4.
The wife took the GII so I went back to an IP4. Still think its better.

Thats a FACT.
I do this test all the time and prove it to people.
I take my 4.6' GalaxyII and an IP4 and load up ESPN full screen page.
All the small texts on a 3.5" are clearly more legible than the 4.6" GII screen.
It has everything to do with the 960x640 screen vs 840x400 screen.

What does a LCD screen have to do with a SAMOLED screen on a skyrocket? Apples and oranges comparison.

Regarding the keyboard experience, it's about as stupid of an argument as the old Mac vs. PC debates. The bottom line is this: it's all about what you're used to.

Like what? I find the KB on my iphone to be horrible. Autocorrect is crap, dictionary adding is horrendous, the fact I have to hit to get a "." all the time is really retarded.

I too feel that the iPhone keboard feels just a bit more responsive than any Android keyboard, including the ICS one, Swiftkey X and Smart Keyboard Pro. When I use the iPhone keyboard I'm responsive of its fluid "feel".

With that said, I absolutely LOVE the secondary functions on third party keyboards on Android - I set my click+ hold time to 200ms (down from the default 500ms -- half a second) and I use secondary functions to type numbers and symbols all the time. That's one area where I like the Android keyboards a lot better. Just try typing a Canadian postal code (M6H 2H4) for example on an iPhone and then try on a keyboard like SwiftKey X. Typing a mix of characters is much nicer on Android.

Regarding the screen on the Skyrocket -- 4.5" was always pushing it for the 800x480 SAMOLED+ display. I've got a 4.27" international Galaxy S 2 and I like the display much better - the resolution is better suited for that screen size than the bigger size. The 4.65" 1280x720 display on the Galaxy Nexus is beautiful, and the SGS III is supposed to be 1280x720 as well.

I used Swiftkey X when I had an EVO but do think the keyboard on the 4S may be a little better. Not on some level as a deciding factor between Android/iOS magnitude though.

What's actually relevant is that the iPhone will repeat an alert up to 10 times. It's been said in another thread that if 10 alerts doesn't get my attention, nothing will. While that may be good enough most of the time, some of the time it won't be good enough. It's a non-issue with an app that repeats alerts indefinitely.

*EDIT* SwiftKey X feels and acts more like the iPhone's keyboard than the Samsung or Android keyboard. I may try a few more if I can find some free ones... I think SwiftKey X is $5 after 30 days... not excited about paying $5 for a keyboard for this phone.
