Oh yes, no snow...Just rain...lots and lots and lots of rain!!

Coooooool ride and it's an early 90s modell which were built like a brick... you will be enjoying this "Schwaben-bomber" for years to come.

Just curious: How many miles/kilometers does it have on the odometer? Probably not that many as it is a rare auto.

My friend has a 93 500E, and it is a very nice car. Plenty of power, and very well built. He has owned Porshe 911s, a 928, a BMW 750, and many others, but he has stuck with the 500E for over five years.

We need to combine forces then - because Alabama has had 9.5 inches of rain in August (3X average)!

That car weighs 3800lbs, 322 HP will move that JUST FINE 🙂

120,000kms apprx. 80,000miles??

I dunno about anyone else, but I would never spend 24k on a 92 car unless it was an NSX or something.

You can even get a 95 S400's at that price.

I would most likely have opted out for a brand new accord or something.

S500 Fully Loaded with 80k miles

I'd rather be rolling around in one of these than the E500 was it ?

Or Even This S500 Coupe

Ya maybe, but you really can't compare the two! It's like apples and oranges.

And if you actually understood what the car was...you'd see why he bought it. But it's okay that you don't know anything about mercedes...you are very much entitled to your opinions! 🙂

Money really was'nt an issue with this car, he just loves it and I'm happy, for him too

It's just about me sharing something that we're are happy about.

You do realize the S Class is the best in a Benz ? Who in the world would choose an 92 over an 95 S Class ?
Please don't tell me that I don't know anything about cars. As much as you're entitled to your opinions,
I'm pretty sure I know more about cars than you do.

Additional:

the 92 car is nice by no means, especially if it's in great condition. But you could have had a much newer car.

You're right...I personally don't know too about about any cars! 🙂 But my husband does so I'm getting him to chat with you about it from now on.

So here he is:

Hey guys. Shaun here (or should I say Andre he..he). I hear what you are saying about the car and I am not on ATOT at all but I felt I have to defend this car. I'm pretty sure you DO NOT know more than me about cars! Sealy posted this just as conversation but as to your replies I have to say this.

The 500E is very rare and the car is a joint project with Porsche. There was no S class with this. Exclusivity does add to the price. You have to remember that this car is far from a 300E.

Second, a 1995 S500 has a different motor producing 302 hp and 334lb/ft of torque. The 500E has DOHC out of the 500SL but with more torque (354 lb/ft) and less weight. Ahh weight, an S class tips the scales well over 4,000lbs (I believe 4,200) while the 500E is close to 3,800. This makes a difference.

The only parts on this car from a 300E are the hood, roof, and trunk. This car is rare and appreciating rather than common (S class) and depreciating. No big deal but a difference. Don't get me wrong, I love the S class but for me and my love of cars, this one is for me. I have never owned something that is common and this car is NOT common. 🙂

Bottom line. Four door performance sedan specific vs. a four door luxury saloon. I have also heard about buying an NSX. I want FOUR doors and an NSX is far more expensive than my car with less to offer. Cheers!

Im not too sure if Edmunds is right or you're right on the 95 S500 but it produces 347 lb torque and 315 horsies.

The NSX was a preference of mine 😉 but It seems to me you could at that price could have even gotten the 95 S600 with 389 horsies and 420 lb torque.

If you chose rarity, I guess I could understand your decision, but it just seems like the newer S500 or S600 seems to be a better option. S600 Especially if you're looking at performance for those huge beasts.

Gee, you could have had a three year newer S420 for the same price... whoopy!

You made the right choice by a country mile, so forget about it!

Hey, join the forums, would ya? We're overrun with ricers and Japanese econobox fanboys. It would be great to have a different slant on what a car should be, for a change. 😉

Yes, and there are a few Domestic defenders around but they're dying out quick 😛

I would say the choice to buy a 500E was only a bad one if what they paid was more than the car was worth. Based on the few I found within 200 miles of me, $30k CAN for a 500E with 70k miles on it seems a more than fair price. Beyond that, it's all just subjective opinions and what you happen to like more.

Based on those numbers it seems it would edge out the S in power, an based on its rarity (I know I haven't seen many of them), it does seem reasonable to assume it will depreciate slower than a more popular and numerous vehicle.

I merely advocate nice, full size, 4dr, V8, RWD cruisers no matter who builds them. Now that's a dying breed, but God knows why! 😕
