Subpar compared to what? Your stuff? I'm a college student on a tight budget, moving into my own place for the first time. To me, this is great. Plus, I
own all of it. It's not my parent's stuff, it's not my brother's stuff, it's
my stuff. I have to start somewhere. I can't afford a $1,300 DVD player or a $3,000 receiver right now (working hourly part-time will do that to you, lol). The point of posting is simply to show off what I have. I'm excited about having my first system! This is just about all the A/V equipment I own. Is it audiophile-quality equipment? No. Is it fantastic? Not really. Does it do the job? Yes. Is it better than nothing? Definately yes! Is it fun to start a new hobby and get into it at whatever level I can and build from there? Yup
🙂
Part of the fun of a hobby for me is upgrading, within budget and over time. If I start out with a Denon 5805, a 60" widescreen plasma television, and B&W 800 series speakers, I'm not going to have much room to upgrade and I'm going to be in debt (plus, being in an apartment, I don't have a lot of room). However, I'm starting out with really basic stuff that's moderately better than a plain old television with built-in speakers and dvd player on top of cinder blocks. Part of my goal is to learn how to build speakers, cables, and A/V furniture, simply as a hobby. Right now I have a basic understanding of equipment, how to hook it together, and what's out there, but I want to learn more. My current setup is great for my situation right now and allows me to work on other things, since I already have it. For example, I'm currently working on my first hi-fi system, with a vintage Dynaco amp and Dayton BR-1 kit speakers (thanks ribbon13!). So, save up, do a project, save up, do another project, etc. I'll get years of enjoyment out of this way as well as an education.
Oh, and the remote is awesome
