i only bought it a little over a year ago, sadly i cant afford to upgrade that quickly, otherwise i would definitely match the 3910 with the 3805, mostly so i could use Denonlink for DVD-Audio leaving my ext-inputs for my computers soundcard....

mebbe in another year i might consider upgrading....the 5805 is well out of my league at my current wage position...lol

took me a year and a half to get together all you see.....lol

It's still quite respectable.

🙂

btw, the speakers are in the rosemah finish......suits the apple white/green deco in my room very nicely....

For my 3805 setup-, I'm running an all Paradigm Studio series setup. My 5805 gets some ML speakers. Still not completely setup because the HT room is still beging prepped.

No disrespect, but what is the point of posting such sub-par equipment? The remote is the best thing you have as equipment.

Subpar compared to what? Your stuff? I'm a college student on a tight budget, moving into my own place for the first time. To me, this is great. Plus, I own all of it. It's not my parent's stuff, it's not my brother's stuff, it's my stuff. I have to start somewhere. I can't afford a $1,300 DVD player or a $3,000 receiver right now (working hourly part-time will do that to you, lol). The point of posting is simply to show off what I have. I'm excited about having my first system! This is just about all the A/V equipment I own. Is it audiophile-quality equipment? No. Is it fantastic? Not really. Does it do the job? Yes. Is it better than nothing? Definately yes! Is it fun to start a new hobby and get into it at whatever level I can and build from there? Yup 🙂

Part of the fun of a hobby for me is upgrading, within budget and over time. If I start out with a Denon 5805, a 60" widescreen plasma television, and B&W 800 series speakers, I'm not going to have much room to upgrade and I'm going to be in debt (plus, being in an apartment, I don't have a lot of room). However, I'm starting out with really basic stuff that's moderately better than a plain old television with built-in speakers and dvd player on top of cinder blocks. Part of my goal is to learn how to build speakers, cables, and A/V furniture, simply as a hobby. Right now I have a basic understanding of equipment, how to hook it together, and what's out there, but I want to learn more. My current setup is great for my situation right now and allows me to work on other things, since I already have it. For example, I'm currently working on my first hi-fi system, with a vintage Dynaco amp and Dayton BR-1 kit speakers (thanks ribbon13!). So, save up, do a project, save up, do another project, etc. I'll get years of enjoyment out of this way as well as an education.

Oh, and the remote is awesome 🙂

Yeah, we all have to start somewhere 🙂

I feel totally inadequate when I go over to AVSforum or hometheaterforum, but over here by system is pretty decent. It's all about what you're comparing it to.

Kaido's system is better than most of the setups in my dorm.

haha, I know what you mean. I feel like Superman sometimes. When I'm on AVS Forum or even here on AT, I'm Clark Kent, with a cheesy little setup, but to my friends and family, I'm Superman, with a surround sound system, universal remote, etc. It's kind of funny. I'm honestly pretty happy with it. Sure, I'd love better, but I have this now, and that's what counts 🙂

If you're looking at DLP sets, Sams has started selling the Panasonic DLP 50" set for a good price. It's got the HD2+ chip and 8 segment color wheel. It's regarded by many as the best looking DLP set available. However, I will say that most DLP sets look amazing and it's up to the owner to decide what they like the best. Tweeter should have these setup in showrooms. Those are about the only 2 national chains that sell them. Very great set. But, any DLP will rock. I'm not suggesting that it's the only possible choice by any means, just a good price on a HD2+ chip set ($2349, I think).

More stuff

Dayton 8" MTM's
My old Infinity car sub
250w plate amp (Infinity)
Adire Tumult in the corner (sealed --> ported conversion, I need to build a new box)
Behringer EP 2500 (Tumult)
Crown DC300A (currently not hooked up)
NAD 3020 (Center channel(s))
Sony 3200F (R/L Mains)
Fisher CA-35 (Rear surrounds, some old Nakamichis)

nice! I'm planning on building a pair of MTMs for my next project. I figured I'd go with the Dayton kit to get some experience before building a set completely from scratch.

quick question on the MTMs...I've seen the regular bookshelf-style version on speakerbuilder.net, but how do you do towers? Is the whole thing hollow or did you put a piece of wood just under the drivers and port to seal it off? I'd prefer to build towers but I don't have a clue how 🙂

and man...a tumult? lucky! 🙂

They're from here. They're fully open, tuned to around 32hz. His parts list is incomplete last time I looked, it's missing the 22uF cap.

what would you guys think about a dual tower stereo system with the subwoofer place in the middle?

yeah, despite what online speaker builders have to say about the mystique of crossovers and all that, I think they're just too lazy to make a complete parts list and post it 🙂

how do you think the MTM design would sound in a surround-sound setup? like, two MTM towers up front, a horizontal MTM center, and two MTM bookshelf speakers for the rears?

Nice, I'd say you're doing better than me. I sank all my money into the speakers/reciever and a computer. I don't own the TV or the DVD-player(belong to a friend).

Are you asking about having two tower speakers to the left and right and then placing a sub between them?

It's usually best to have the sub in the corner. You get the best response from it that way usually.

A little trick to sub placement is to place the sub in the listening position and have it play some music. Then walk around the room to various places the sub could end up. Once you find the spot where it sounds best to you (or better yet, get an SPL meter and measure frequency response) then place the sub there. When you go back to the listening position, the sub should sound good.

yeah, in the middle, just for visual purposes (in symmetry or whatever it's called).

freq. response and all that is over my head. I don't understand any of the graphs related to speakers. all I know is music comes out of them, lol. I've seen a number of graphs related to speaker building; where do you learn what they mean, how to make them, how to use them, etc.?

I have 5 Radia speakers, Infocus 4805 projector,Pioneer Elite Receiver, Pioneer DVD player,Pioneer CD/burner combo,Viewsonic processor and all the gaming toys hooked up...and its all paid for to.... plus a Harmony 688 remote...(thats the cool part)
