I haven't gotten it measured in a couple years, mainly because every gym I go to charges 15-20 bucks for it, and I don't want to know that badly. I asked on of the trainers today about the one I'm at now and he said they have it, and it's free.

They have calipers, the electronic measure, and some other mystery type. I'm really happy about this. I'm paying 64/month but there's tons of freebies with guest passes, towel service, bf % testing, and a litany of free classes.

(it's Boston Sports Club if anyone's curious. The chain also has NY Sports Club, Philadelphia Sports Club, and Washington (DC) Sports Club)

Nice. I wish my facility had that, but my employer has a wellness program that does it. An RN measures with calipers and per the last test I had done (just before Thanksgiving) I'm a beefy 12%. :( I'm hoping to be below 10% by spring and at 8% by summer.

12% is still really good. When your bf % goes too low, your body is less able to work as well. Be careful.

If I wasn't in training for triathlons I'd almost be satisfied. I just have these remnants of lovehandles I have got to lose. I might get to 10% just by losing them. But to be highly competitive in the races I intend to compete in, I need to get lean. The more I weigh the more energy it's going to take to haul my body around. I've read that 8% is a good compromise thus it's my goal.

BUT keep in mind that you're less dense while swimming. I actually watched a distance swimming event (marathon-like) where a woman won overall (both men and women's divisions) because she had a little extra fat (clearly not much). I'm just giving you a positive of being you :p

Hehe, it might help on the swim but the punishment it would cause on the bike and run would totally dominate the benefit.
