My good deed for the day...(Edit: I got served)

A guy's car broke down at the bowling alley I do security for... He needed money for a train ticket for him and the people he was with. I gave him $30 and he's supposedly going to return the money tomorrow when he gets his car (i have his name/number as well)

Will I see the $30??? Probably not. And if not, yeah I will be disappointed because I still like to think there are good honest people out there.

For the record, I wasn't too keen on the idea of giving a stranger $30, and a good part of me still isn't, but I still feel a bit better about myself knowing I tried to help someone that at the time seemed to need it. If anything, this will just be an experiment. If I get burned, then lesson learned.

I will keep you all updated as to whether or not I get the money back. If not, well, I have karma on my side. I'm just trying to be a better person, my name is Earl. 😛

Edit: No cash. Car's Gone. Pwnt! Still have his apparant name and number though.

Cheap?

My coworker had a train schedule and they are about $5 each for where the guy had to go. He said there were about 5 people total (I saw 3, but he said people were coming to pick him up and go with him on the train).

Like I said, if I don't get reimbursed, then it's a $30 lesson.

I did a good deeed somewhat along those lines earlier this year. I had gone to Wachovia Center to watch the Sabres/Flyers game 3 match in the playoffs. The bad news is the Sabres lost 5-4. However, after that, as I was getting my ticket for the train, some guy was asking for any change he could have so that he could get a ticket himself. I just bought the ticket for him. It was only $10 or so, and made my downer of a day into a good one.

Well you know what they say... if you lend someone $30 and you never see them again... it was probably worth it.

But I do hope the guy does the right thing.

They also say "There's a sucker born every minute."

😀

I gave a girl at a shopping center $10 to catch a bus home. ... never heard a damn thing from her again.

Lent a girl friend of mine $2000 to help her out.... never heard a damn thing from her again.

I kept giving a tenant lady time to get the rent..... stiffed me for more than $3000 and left the place trashed.

EFF being the nice person anymore. Anyone in a worse situation than you is probably there for a good reason.

I'm taking those last two to court though. I'm done being good.

Yep, and from the sounds of things, the OP took 5 minutes to pop out the chute...

Don't be TOO disappointed if you never see the guy again, or he just stiffs you. But, if he DOES come back, ya dun good...hopefully, Karma will remember and come your way for it...

I wont be disappointed about not receiving the $30 back. I will be disappointed that he was that kind of person if he stiffs me.

Don't feel bad. I gave someone $10 whose "car broke down".

He actually knocked on my door. At the time we lived across the street from a Botanical Garden. He was dressed appropriately, said his girlfriend was waiting "back at the car" and that they needed money to drive back home.

Frankly, he put on a good act and I didn't realize what had happened until about 10 minutes later. Then I realized I'd got taken.

Now I play online poker and take strangers' money to get revenge

it doesn't matter, you did it for the right reason
don't sweat it, someone will help you some day when you really need some help

I am betting he doesn't have a car there. The scammers car was parked around the corner.

If people were coming to pick him up, why would he need train money?

Well, he first had us (Security) try giving his car a jump while the people he was with waited inside the vehicle. It didn't take, which I guess is why I took pity and helped him out. I probably should have put that in the OP but it was late when I posted it.

As for the "I wonder if they had money", yeah I thought about that as well... If anything this was a $30 experiment.

Well, Im off to the bowling alley. I'll let you all know whether or not the money was there tonight. Though I have my doubts, a part of me wants to believe it will be there. We'll see. 🙂

Watch out for Crimson King and say hello to Ralph for me.
