Why do you ask people for an opinion on video cards when its OBVIOUS you have your mind made up to get the x800xt and will not listen to any advice (and you go so far as saying NOT TO REPLY TO THE THREAD WITH ANY DIFFERING OPINIONS!!!!!!)??? WHY?

If you wanted this to be an ATI circle jerk you are not going to get it b/c that card is too damn expensive for what you get.

x800 does better than 6800 in HL2 which is all some people care about. I personally am never getting a nVidia card again because the one I did buy died on me 6 months after using it. I have been using ATi ever since and have never had a single problem. Video cards are more personal preference. Either way you will have a great card for as long as you want to keep it....unless it dies....

i like them to give me advice i was gonna get 2 raptor drives on raid 0 until mik3y saved me 170 somthing dollars.

w00t, hey, its all good. Just realize this: everyone here is telling you to get a 6800. Now, ultimately, you will get whatever you want (its your money).

My only contention is this: you come here for advice. Not one post tells you to get a x800 xt. they ALL TELL YOU TO GET A 6800. That in itself should speak volumes. buy whatever you want. Just realize, when you go to enthusiats for advice and you decide (on your own) to go against that advice, it will one day bite you in the *ss and you will say, "Damn $500 is alot of money, I should have listened to the people that tried to help me."

the x800 is a great card, don't get me wrong. We are trying to help you. That card will not have the lifespan a 6800 will have. FYI, you were warned, have fun with it.

Again, HL2 is 1 game. ONE GAME. $500 for one game is so short sighted. Yes, the x800 is a great card. The 6800 is a much better card. I am not a fan boy; I upgraded from a 9800 pro. Last generation, nVidia got is *ss beat. theycame back HARD this round. ATI will probably be back on top next round, and I will buy an ATI. See? That is called being smart with your money.

FYI Blight, I don't know of any cardmaker that doesn't offer at least a year warranty; if you got less you got screwed not by nVidia but by whomever made your card. PC hardware goes kaput sometimes, even from the best makers. Just my 2cents.

Why are you so set on an ATI card. If more than 3/4's the board is telling you to get a Nvidia 6800, why are you being so stubborn and still getting an ATI card?

Let me make a comparison....
Lets just say you go into an alley on the street. You see two guys standing next to two cars. One of the guys is standing next to a Ferrari and the other is standing next to a BMW M5. Now you currently own a BMW M3 (I am assuming you own an ATI card right now?) The guy with the Ferrari tells you he will sell it for only $100,000. Now they guy with the BMW says he will match the other guys price and sell you his M5 for only $100,000. You think to yourself hey I have a M3 right now why not go with the M5, my M3 has treated me good for awhile now. But overall the Ferrari is going to be a faster and better car.

If you look at benchmarks, I am sorry to say this if you are a die hard ATI fan, Nvidia is beating ATI. Also why not try something new, instead of sticking with the same thing all the time?

so u want a 14 pipeline card? get stuffed

some people on this forum are over twice your age (100's times ur mental age) and are therefore more knowledgeable and wiser than you are.

x800 and 6800 are both good cards, but why buy the castrated dog? when u can have the dog and its danglies for the same money?

the 6800gt is a wiser purchase, but ur 15 and therefore you know more than all the people who've been in the computer business longer than uve been alive.

by the x800 and be disapointed when either a) softmod doesnt work, b) works then kills the card (at which point u will try RMA which is stealing or c) lots of SM3.0 games come out n ur stuck with the last gen SM2.0

also raptors suck, small stoarge, noisy, and who gives a toss bout the 5 or so seconds they load up faster....a real W00T that is.

buy what u want...be happy but be prepared to upgrade earlier than the rest of us.....ouch!

You can make a x800pro vivo as good as a x800xt
same pipeline amount at least that is what i heard on these forums.

softmodding is never 100% successful, at worst u could damage the card, and then u'd have lost ur 300-400 bucks, if works then great but theres always a chance, and i wouldnt like to take a chance with something that expensive.....specially as ur 15 and wont have the money to replace it

plus if u bust it then try to RMA it then everyone will just hate you more.... RMA'ing a card u broke thru neglagence or trying to get somethinf u never payed for is tantamount to stealing

x800xt is a better buy than the x800pro u were lookin at, (still think nvidia win this round tho) the x800xt is not the uber rare x800xt pe which is a agp card only the pci-s x800xt is clocked 500/500, and wil likely oc abit. its a nice card, jus bit lacking in feature set

from what i have seen from screenshots the x800xt looks better but if that is not the case i would rather get the 6800gt and save some money.

look right ill do it for u

ATI- the x800, based on R420 which is a derivative of the turning point for ati...the r300 gpu, so its basically an enhanced r300 with 12 or 16pipes,
ati have generally been better at shaders and have good aa and af implementation...specially compared to NV3x aka the 5 series

Nvidia- the 6800 - is a totally new core design, nvidia have dumped their old skool 4x2 architectur and picked up a new 16x1 archicture, the 5 series sucked and i would have no hesitation saying go ati, but its a diff story now, the 6 series is better equiped with more features, they have worked hard on their AA and AF, and although still take more of a hit than ATI it is very much better than before, nv chips are clocked slower but can keep up and beat ati, they have the more efficient architecture

Image quality on both is the same nvidia done a good job recovering from the 5 series flop

drivers wise having had both ati and nvidia i must say nvidia have the drivers down to a tee, they are better.

plus ur gettin a 3200, most sites bench on fx55 or a64 4000's and these cards are still cpu limited, 6800gt makes the best choice right now, its nicely priced and u get a lot for your money....plus most overclock to ultra speeds anyhows.

6800gt onwards ur gonna be cpu limited

oh and DOOM3 NV>>>>>>>ATI
HL2 Ati > NV

nvidia have the doom3 crown easy, but ati isnt waltzing away in hl2, nv are snapping very very closely at their heels

6800gt almost always beats a x800PRO

x800xt is a diff story and more worht it....if u want ati then x800xt is ur choice

get what u want, not my money

they will both play any game without question

jus check the benchmarks out

start here in anandtech video reviews @ anand

then move on to places like xbitlabs.com, techreport.com and hardcop.com

read a few reviews, maybes read up on the technology, then make a choice

w00t are you kidding me? I already told you the facts.
You = fanboyism.
Fanboyism = bad for the fanboy.

nVidia is better because:

1. It implemented 16 pipelines on their cards as opposed to the nerfed x800 pro with 12 pipes

2. It implemented sm3.0, which is the next generation of shading for video rendering shadows and lighting; ATI left it out of this current core. Just like AMD is owning Intel right now because they implemented 64 bit architechture even though the software is still 32 bit, when it all catches up (software + hardware) you get an instant hardware upgrade that costs you no money.

3. Right now, there is really two rendering paths in games (Examples, Doom 3 and Half Life 2). This is the real reason why people are trying to tell you to get nVidia. In Doom 3, nVidia SPANKED ATI back and forth like Pee Wee football vs the NFL. However, in the coding path that ATI was supposed to shine vs nVidia (HL2), ATI only won by a few FPS. That is the proof in the pudding.

Dude, you have alot of people here telling you to go nVidia. Do you think we all work for nVidia or something? Think about it. What makes sense: a nVidia conspiracy or learned, knowlegable people telling you the truth?
