research video cards the 6XXX nvidia series is just amazing, any gamer in their right mind and the wallet to back it up would want one of that series of cards

i'd suggest a 6800GT and then flash to ultra, do some research..

before i built the specs for my new rig i was thinking ati x800xt i hadnt been keeping up with the latest and greatest changes in mainstream computer hardware, so i still assumed that ati had the lead on nvidia cards, the MX/FX series def was dwarfed by the ati cards, well i did some research and little did i learn that with this new series of cards, the Nvidia 6XXXX series; nvidia had taken a step in the right direction, and in all the reviews i've read seems to definitely have taken the lead in the "who has the best GPU" race

system sounds good, same ram i am getting, but again i'd say go nvidia, research it out; good luck

if you want the best and have the money why not get the best you can afford within your budget?

why anyone buying a new card would want an ati after reading the data, the benchmark results and all the reviews, is beyond me, well there's the infomation, it's obviously your computer, but dont just be a loyal ati person, get the best you can get for your money

and that isnt ati

it's your money, like i said, i was going ati all the way until i read reviews, sounds like you need to do the same if you want the best equipment, in this field you dont go on personal preference always you go on whats the best item for your money

for instance the motherboard i got was an MSI, due to how great it is reviewed and all the great comments about it, yet i've always been a loyal abit/asus/gigabyte guy, yet i didnt let my personal prejudices interfere with my objective and that was to get the best computer i could possibly build at this current moment

further:

for work i _ALWAYS_ use intel pentium xeon cpus in my servers and am very happy with that class processor for the stability and lack of worry i have when it comes to servers, but if someone makes a better, more stable processor i wouldnt hestitate to change; because it's all about getting what is best not about being loyal to intel. yet after researching for a GAMING PC the intel p4's versus amd 64 it's no contest for gaming which to get; so again dont be brand loyal, being brand loyal makes you a sheep, make each decision based on data/benchmarks/reviews/etc

what are you 10? i was just trying to help you make an informed decision, if you dont want a critique of your box then dont make such a post, you asked for critique on the box which is exactly what i did, trying to help you make an informed decision, if you cant articulate your reasons why you want an ati card then they are obviously not very sound reasons based on data/benchmarks, i was simply trying to offer some help and devil advocate to make sure you had checked both ati and nvidia and compared between the two

and on a side note, don't they teach grammar/spelling in school these days? i really see a lack of proper spelling across the board with the teens, funny how someone can know what an amd or ocz ram is yet not know "flaming" is not "flamming" /sigh, we need to put more money into edumacatione...

The only thing I might do is get the SLI board, the reason is that because Nvidia came out with a 2 card, video card, ATI shouldnt be too far behind them. I might be nice latter to upgrade to two video card.

my 2 cents

w00t I do have to side with AixenV on this one. Trust me, don't be so stubborn and hard-headed about ATI. Yes I have an ATI card right now, and yes I trust ATI. But the Nvidia 6 Series would be the way to go now. I'm just sayin' if you want to play the cutting edge games with the best performance for the longest amount of time, go with an Nvidia.

OK, I am siding with everyone here; being a fanboy of any specific company (when it comes to hardware) is counterperductive to YOU; just my 2 cents. nVidia and ATI are both awesome; the problem with the card you are picking is that ATI nerfed it by scalling it back to 12 pipes instead of the 16 pipes that the x8oo XT and the 6800 GT + 6800 Ultra have. You will not be able to flash it to an XT and get the same performance (you may be able to get the mem and bus to spec speed X, but it will not be the same).

If you are dead set on x800 line, get the XT. At least you will get all the pipes you should get for the money.

PS > another reason to go nVidia is they support sm3.0; it's like AMD supporting 64 bit processing - it does nothing for you right now (because software doesn't implement it) but it will give you a free upgrade once companies start developing for it. And trust me, they will. Its easier to code and gives better performance.

you can flash it if u have vivo card unlock the 2 pipelines.

I understand the 6800 series is a group of good cards.fps isnt everything i dont care if nvidia is up by 20fps. i am not buying an ATI because its an ATI i am buying an ATI because i like the x800 series i want the xt.i knew this thread was a bad idea.i knew people would insist i get an nvidia card well that is there opinon and i respect that now respect mine.

$If you are going to ask for peoples opinions, and then completely disregard them, why would anyone answer?

It is apparent you have chosen your gaming PC. It will be very good. Enjoy. You don't need other people's approval.

i just dont understand why you wouldnt want the best bang for your buck

saying " dont care if nvidia is up by 20fps. .." is laughable, other then image quality isnt speed the #1 objective? maybe i missed the boat...

you can buy whatever you want no one can force you to buy something else, you did ask however to have people critique your proposed box, so i did that and you still haven't given a good reason why you like ati x800 more then the 6800...im just curious, maybe you have some information i haven't read?

if you were to buy a car; and 1 car was motortrends car of the year and had 25more horsepower over this other car, why other then brand loyalty would you not get the motortrends car of the year??

i work hard for my money, and my money goes to the very best thing i can afford REGARDLESS of brand/make

what makes no sense to me is why say

"the video card is probably the one i need the most comments on ...."

and then whine and complain when people DO EXACTLY THAT, comment on your Video card choice..

/boggle

if you didnt care to hear what other people thought about your video card choice you could have said, hey comments on every component but my video card, i dont care about the fact nvidias are better im stickin with an ati and that's that, ....
