It all happened March 11, 2005 at approx. 9am EST. He was travelling northbound on a major highway (407 ETR) in Toronto, Ontario. A UPS truck and Pepsi truck travelling in the southbound lanes connected with one another. One of the trucks was sent airborn into Northbound traffic. Traffic was probably movin between 100Km/h and 120km/h. His life changed at the moment of impact. He had a passenger in the vehicle as well.
His life was saved by a paramedic who punctured one of his lungs to drain the blood that had accumulated. He has suffered 2 broken femer(sp.) bones, a broken shin bone, a broken foot, a compund fracture on his left arm, a broken wrist, 2 broken forearms, and a broken left elbow. Basically, he broke every limb on his body. He also suffered a puntured lung, and spleen damage. Surprising enough, no head, neck, back injury....he will walk again.
He was in ICU for 3 weeks on a 10mg/h morphine drip, so remembers very little if anything at all....probably a good thing. To this day (May 12, 2005), he remains in the hospital, but a rehab hospital now. He is working on getting his mobility back, but I'm sure time plays a major factor here. On his left elbow, there is so much metal in there, that calcium has grown over his joint and locked his arm in place, he will need yet another surgery to take care of that in about 6 months from now.
Passenger suffered a couple broken ribs and a black eye, he left the hospital the same day.
Well, I'm off to pay him a visit shortly, and sorry, no cliffs notes.....take the time to read.
