Chances are it will take you just as long to fly as it would on the train. That one hour flight becomes 4 hours once you factor in the time it takes to get to the airport, check in, wait in security, go to the gate, wait for takeoff, deboard, wait for bags, etc.

BTW, you are flying to DC just for the ATOT meetup? Dang you are one dedicated ATOT'er

I agree with this, but we live downtown, so the trip to the airport is about 15 minutes. Also, this is more "practice" than anything - she's right, how am I going to go to Belize this Summer if I can't even fly an hour?

heh, have a safe and easy flight. remember that the pilots are professionals and that is their living. Just accept that you'll have to rely on others and relax.

someone call the airport and report to them that there is a deranged man in his early 20's planning to leave out of boston for D.C. He should be considered armed and dangerous. Please give him a full cavity search before letting him on the plane. Also He may be going by the name Matt.

You know, I voted positively in your other thread.

flying is the safest form of flying ever. Chances of you dying in broad daylight w/ very little traffic is much higher than flying. Driving that short distance to the store? your life is in danger moreso in that scenario than flying. A stroll down the park? nop, you'll be more likely to die there than flying.

but this argument has been beaten to hell and back then back to hell again..and back yet again...

of course i was scared a bit the first time I flew.. I was a kid, and only saw news about planes crashing. I flew to nearly all continents (*shakes fist @ south america, australia, and antartica..well, hopefully I can set foot to those places someday; 2008 hopefully..please..*goes talks to supervisor to beg*) and been through pretty bad turbulences (you feel yourself get tossed from your seat..if it weren't for the belt, i'd probably would've flew a bit off my seat). It's not bad, and you get to meet some of the most interesting people around the world if you fly a lot.

don't limit yourself. flying shouldn't be a fear. base jumping and other extreme sports are stuff to be a bit scared about. flying in a commercial liner isn't.

Really? No way in hell I'll believe that flying is the safest form of flying ever. I would have assumed that picking my nose was the safest way of flying. Man, you're going to have to prove that.

I hate flying. Luckly have to do it no more than once every year. My secret: 3mg ativan (benzodiazapine-need to get it from your Dr.) 30-60 min before flight, then 1-2 hard drinks of you choice in flight (well, thats what it takes for me, I might be a lighweight since I dont ever have a drink except when I fly). If your flight is longer than 3-4 hours, take another ativan 1 mg every 2.5-3 hours. Be careful with the alchohol if you need to do this, though. And dont even think about driving after your flight. Get a cab and take a nab at a hotel.

you will be fine man don't sweat it. boston to DC is not that long of a flight either.

just have a movie to watch or something. and remember all those noises that you hear are normal.

also just do some research - there have been like 0 crashes from turbulence reported on major airlines. so when you feel that slight bump, don't sweat it and continue to watch your movie.

just think about how many flights there are daily and how no one ever gets hurt on any of them. think about how many flights your pilot has flown and have all been successful. the pilots are trained to handle sticky situations and it's themselves they also are looking after and they will do everything in their power to make sure it's okay.

i gte a little nervous when flying myself and i had my longest flight (5.5 hours) this past year, and all I did was watch Heroes s1 while on it.

Just don't flip out during takeoff because that is the freakiest part since the plane is going like 5 mph then suddenly the jets pop on and you go from like 5-100mph is like 10 seconds. It's fun though.

Then we you are off the ground and at an angle going into the sky, it feels like you are falling but you straighten out pretty quick and then it's cool.

I don't really like flying either but I handled it fine. It's especially easier when you have someone you know beside you (in your case, your friend)

what flight are you on so that I might secret away an operating CD player or other electronic device to make the iron bird fall from the sky?

take ambien... for fun, trying to stay awake, and see neat "illusions"... well, as long as you don't have a "bad trip"
