This is a horrible idea. He needs less computer time, not more. Does he have any interests outside computers? Music, photography, sports, anything? He really just needs to get out and to get real world experience.

But people can't change unless they want to, even if they're unhappy with their current situation. All you can do is try to expose him to different things, but if he's not willing, I don't think there is much you can do.

The thing is he doesn't really have any interests whatsoever, or if he does he's been able to keep them secret to me. I've tried to take him on hikes, go out to the retail area and shop, or even just hanging out at someone elses house playing some fun multiplayer games, but no matter what he answers no. I've gone so far as to offer him money to come have some fun, but still he answers with a definitive no. It really pains me to see him go down this road, but if what you say is right nothing is going to change until he wants it to. :(

Introduce him to programming. At least he can do something useful with his time at the computer.

He actually took a programming class last year, but he ended up just goofing around on the internet instead of actually learning how to program.

I have decided to delete what I said. I shouldn't be gossiping about my friend and should accept him flaws and all.

Just like you should about your "hopeless friend"

Sounds like to me he is getting on your nerves and you may not be friends much longer.

I'd suggest you tell him how you feel. If you piss him off, maybe you two should go your own ways. Since he seems to always piss you off.

When you post to gossip about someone that is your friend. Then you have to question yourself. Now if you posted to ask for advice on getting him to try other things and not down grade him.

He has his likes and dislikes. Just like you. Remember why your friends with him. If the memory of your friendship is faded then maybe it's time to move on.

Shit or get off the pot, but don't be friends with the guy because you feel sorry for him. That's just wrong.

Most humans are retards not worth knowing. It's absolutely absurd - and a testament to human stupidity - that going to a bar or club, spending $5-$10 or more per drink and meeting shallow women with ~80 IQs is considered the thing to do, and anyone who doesn't is stupid, nerdy, wrong, etc. But thinking is hard for most people, thinking for themselves harder still. So they just adopt everyone elses' ideals. *sigh* Idiocracy is truly a prophetic film.

High school?

High school doesn't count. If he's still like that after he gets out of college, then worry.

You don't get out much, do you? I do agree though; most people are fucking retarded.

Yes, getting him addicted to a computer hardware review site will definitely make him less nerdy, and provide him with a whole host of reasons for people to not make fun of him.

Stop meddling in other peoples' lives. If he wants you to bring him along when you hang out with other groups, then fine, whatever. But it kinda sounds like you're trying to "fix" something that doesn't need it. What's wrong with arguing with jerks and liking Magic? High school doesn't last forever, and matters exactly zero once you're out of it.

He doesn't argue with jerks; he argues with everyone! For example: today he had an argument with a nice girl, and he went so far as to make her cry. If this isn't bad I don't know what is...

I dated a guy like this once. He was only interested in skiing and photography. Would argue and be an ass to everyone, including me. I was only his second girlfriend, and looking back I can see why. He's depressed about his life, and at 28, hasn't done much but recently JUST moved out the house. I really don't think there is hope for guys like this unless they want to change. I know the guy I dated is planning on killing himself, and no one can do anything about it.

Are you sure it's not you who's the problem? ;)

George Costanza turns straight women into lesbians. You are an Angel of Death and Despair. :D
You need to make sure they understand the rest of the sentence when you say you will "suck the life out of you." They probably only hear "Suck....you."

I kid, I kid. :)

Whoa, replace photography with "fapping", just moved out to "hasn't even moved out of the house yet", and second girlfriend to "never had a girlfriend", and that's me! FBB gets more action than me!

Too wussy to off myself, though. :p

Somehow I suspect I speak for a good portion of this forum. :D

Hah! I'm ahead of the curve!

I moved out of home (mostly) around age 23, though a lot of my stuff is still there, waiting for me to have a more permanent residence than this ancient apartment. And I'm 26 now.

The rest of it....still accurate. Not even any snorgling. :(

Hahaha!!!! He was this way before I dated him, was actually better afterward. Sadly he is just pathetic.

Would so suck that a guy would want to off himself after dating me. lol.

Edited to put my message outside the quote :D
