My friend got in trouble today

Over the holidays I showed my friend how to install and run a bittorrent client. Today, he got in trouble at his university (because a corporation wrote them a letter) and has to write 20 people at his university on why pirating is bad.
 
sorry to threadjack but I have a question regarding piracy. I have HBO at my apt, is it still illegal for me to download episodes of the HBO shows?

Probably a movie or a 'music' album. Although I haven't seen a good movie or heard a good album for a while... only indie and relatively unknown bands have gotten my money lately...

I think like peer guardian 2 ? not sure it that is a filter as its another program or maybe he is speaking of a setup in some bit clients?

its probably easier to claim your computer was hacked and used as a node to relay pirated material. And you can reformat your computer as a way of "cleaning" the evidence.
 
I agree, he should write ten letters about how piracy is bad--because it's against maritime law, deprives the shipping company of real goods and profit, and puts many sailors at risk.
