I do take the bus. And the subway. And I drive my car. And I have a child. So, yeah, stopping at every intersection is common sense for me.

Stopping at every intersection is retarded. If I were behind you and you stopped where there was no stop sign, I'd be blowing my horn non-stop at you.

yes, yes, and then you'd whip out your giant black dildo and get shot, we all know how this story will end.

Her first ticket in a decade, clean driving record. It was one of those small streets and the sign was not visible.

It's $150~ and she has to mail it in guilty or not.

I know the general mentality of ATOT saying 'just pay the ticket', but you can get them dismissed easily or get it reduced if you at least show up (my experience back in MA in my stupid young days).

This is NY. Do they operate differently? Any way to lessen the penalty?

Thank you.

Address? Lets street view it.

Why would you stop at every intersection if there's no stop sign?

Do you think intersections are only places that have stop signs?

not sure on lesser fines but you can avoid the points in your record most likely by taking the defensive driving course (online, easy as fuck). It's a cash grab anyway but it sounds like you're more interested getting a reduced fee rather than the points themselves so might not be worth it for you.

In New York both streets have stop signs.

That is absolutely false....every damn intersection in the city is not a 4 way STOP...LOL. And if you stop at an intersection anyway without a stop sign being there you should be ticketed for reckless (stupid) driving.

Definition Reckless Driving: Reckless driving is often defined as a mental state in which the driver displays a wanton disregard for the rules of the road; the driver often misjudges common driving procedures, often causing accidents and other damages

And that's exactly what you're doing if you're being a tool and stopping at intersections that don't have a stop sign...I can't believe someone in NYC wouldn't have beat the living shit out of you by know if you actually did this.

How stupid can you be not to stop at an intersection, with or without a stop sign?

That is one of the most asinine things I've ever heard on ATOT...that's saying something. Calling other people stupid when you can't master the simple art of driving and obeying the rules of the road?

Based on my experience in Ohio, The prosecutor will lower the fine or drop the points, if you show up.

When I went to court, I signed in. The prosecutor was the person signing people in, accepting your plea. The rude prosecutor told me:
<ticket was ~75 in 65)
Her: how fast were you going?
Me: Like 67, if that.
Her: Well that's speeding, so you are guilty. GO ahead and pay the fine and save us the time.
Me: What's the point in me even coming down here then?!?!
Her: That was your decision.
Me: Well, I would rather try my luck with the judge.
Her: Ughh... we have a full docket today! FINE! You are scheduled for [3 hours later]
...
30min. later of me sitting and waiting.
...
Her: Ok, we agree to drop the points and lower the fine from $120 to $0 if you pay $50 court costs.
Me: Deal!

Point of the story... if you go before the judge, you will get reduced punishment, or you can strike a deal with the prosecutor to save them time. The courts have more important cases than traffic violations.

I rolled a stop sign on Saturday and now have to pay $160 for a class to keep it off my record. Fvcking sucks. The visibility for oncoming traffic at the point of the sign is nill, and it requires stopping and creeping up further, which when coming out of the subdivision constantly is an easy thing to roll.

The interesting thing was the cop said he had to give me a ticket because he was working on a state grant to saturate that night in an effort to crack down on drunk driving.

You're an idiot. Most streets are one way.

OP should tell us the intersection to see whether or not she was in the wrong.

Ah, no one is coming to your defense? You know why? Because you don't stop at an intersection if you don't have a STOP sign...because of the whole common sense thing you jackass. All streets in NYC are not one way with STOP signs at every intersection....and it's stupid to make such a broad assumption.

The numbered streets start from First Street and go up to 220th Street. The even numbered streets generally run one way, west to east. The odd numbered streets generally run one way, east to west.

There are numerous exceptions. There are six major cross-town streets, which run both ways. These are 14th Street, 23rd Street, 34th Street, 42nd Street, 57th Street and 125th Street.

No, we're definitely interested in the point off, which is far costly.

How does this work? I file not guilty and they give you such option or you take it proactively and hope for the best?

Not sure for NY, but in IL you basically plead guilty to the charge and on the ticket there is a way to sign up for the defensive driving course and send in the fine. You get a packet in the mail with your login info and then you visit the website they provide and complete all the tests. The two I've done are flash based and extremely easy and common sense. Once you complete the test you get notified and the points never hit your record.

The caveat though is if you get another violation within X(forget exact time) period of time, the points you avoided with the test are automatically applied to the record along with the new points on said new violation and you do not have the ability to take the course to fix it. This is all IL based but it should be relatively similar I would think.

Even if the stop sign was covered or taken off by some punk kids, isn't the word STOP with the white bar going across glued to to road at the intersection? How do you miss that? Do you guys not have that where you're at? Every intersection in my town has the STOP pyroclast and bar where a stop sign is in addition to the sign.

See if she can go to traffic school to keep the points off her record otherwise your insurance will probably go up.

You'll probably still have to pay the fine though.

Your wife parallel parks better than you? WTF!? Man card revoked!

Read the title of thread, it clearly says "fiancee". :hmm:

NY City is notorious for having too many one way roads and stop signs on almost all intersections. I hated driving there. D:

So you quote something to prove my point? Thanks. Also, most streets either have lights or stop signs. I'm guessing you don't live in the City.

They both look like FOBs, meaning when they're engaged it practically means they're married, sans the marriage certificate from city hall. Old school Asians don't fuck around with getting engaged for 2 years then break up because they suddenly found greener grass like white people.

I had a similar thing happen. I explained to the cop that if I were behind the line of demarcation, I would not be able to see oncoming traffic due to a big wall.

He went and looked at it, agreed with me, and let me go.

I was pretty happy with that outcome.

No kidding. I fucking hate people who stop at intersections where there is no stop sign. Thankfully, there aren't too many people stupid enough to do this but I do encounter it from time to time.

LOL, how does that prove your point????? I'm not surprised you have such horrible reading comprehension since you think the "smart" thing to do is stop at intersections without stop signs/lights, lol.

The numbered streets start from First Street and go up to 220th Street. The even numbered streets generally run one way, west to east. The odd numbered streets generally run one way, east to west.

That is just saying NYC roads are mostly one way with plenty of exceptions...anyway there are plenty of one way roads in NYC that do not have stop signs at every single intersection. Traffic signs are there for a reason...if there isn't a stop sign that means you don't stop...derp. I can't believe I'm having this argument with someone, lol.
