I had a similar thing happen. I explained to the cop that if I were behind the line of demarcation, I would not be able to see oncoming traffic due to a big wall.

He went and looked at it, agreed with me, and let me go.

I was pretty happy with that outcome.

Interesting. I'm going to have to walk over to the corner and see how strong that argument is in this case.

I've gotten plenty of tickets, mainly for speeding. I know I'm guilty and I own up to it and pay the fine. When I feel I'm in the right or bored, I take it to traffic court. If you're lucky, the cop does not remember your case, or they've "retired" or they can't mount a challenge to the fiction I've brought to court that day. It depends.

How the hell can you speed, if you have to come to a stop every block?

On behalf of half of the residents of New York State, I'd like to apologize for the shitty drivers from NY. Please understand, when people say they're from NY, that doesn't necessarily mean they're from NY City. In fact, where I live, I'm 6 hours away from NYC. I generally don't see shitty drivers on the road - I was wondering where the stereotype came from. Now, I know.

To Dari: I went to street view on google maps & went down a random street in Brooklyn. There was a light at about every 3rd or 4th intersection. Not a single stop sign in the direction traffic would be going, though a stop sign for intersecting traffic coming from the left or right. In other words, you're full of shit. While it may apply to Manhattan, your incredibly myopic view of the world, based on your experiences in Manhattan, and apparently Manhattan alone, do not reflect the driving conditions in the majority of cities.

If she ran the stop sign, then pay the ticket. If she didn't, then dispute it.

I do take the bus. And the subway. And I drive my car. And I have a child. So, yeah, stopping at every intersection is common sense for me.

Please park your car, keep it that way, and stick to the bus and subway. You'll be doing the rest of tge drivers on the road a real service.

OP: as others already have, I suggest she go to court to attempt to avoid having points added to her record.

Even if the stop sign was covered or taken off by some punk kids, isn't the word STOP with the white bar going across glued to to road at the intersection? How do you miss that? Do you guys not have that where you're at? Every intersection in my town has the STOP pyroclast and bar where a stop sign is in addition to the sign.

While I can't speak for the OP, where I live no.. While we have them in some places, but far from being at all stop signs.

Also.. I mean with the info the OP gave us it's to hard to jump to a conclusion. There could factors which actually give the OP a chance, but in this case a picture is almost a must to get a clear idea of whats going on.

Stopping at all intersections! LOL LOL LOL.. You do realize you can get a ticket for that. And it can be exactly what he said which is reckless driving if there is no stop sign.

I think we all know Dari doesn't actually stop at every intersection.

He misspoke and is just committing to it.

No one can be that stupid. You'd cause accidents 24/7.

Nope, no fantasy. In New York, going to a hearing means going to a hearing with motorists that that police officer has ticketed, maybe over the previous 6 or 7 months. It can be a packed house and each of us may get little more than 2-3 minutes with the judge. What does the cop have? Notes he took on that day. He does not remember us well. If you come with a good story, whether true or not, the judge may doubt his. Even better is when the cop looks at you and can't remember shit and tells the judge that.

I speed on the highway. This isn't hard. Not sure what intersections you've looked at but, if there isn't a light then there will be a stop sign. This isn't really difficult to understand. Obviously, no one stops at green lights, but you have to stop at stop signs.

Just make sure you don't drive I'd hat to see the child get hurt when you get rear-ended.

Stop at every intersection? Or every intersection that has a Stop sign / red traffic light?

maybe that's what he means by misspoke..

I stop at every intersection that requires it. I'm a mobile employee, and my employer checks my driving record once a year (or so were told). They also claim you can lose your job for more than 3 dangerous driving marks on your record..

Oh yeah, of course that's what I meant. Apologies all around if people thought I meant stopping even at green lights. But if I didn't make that clear in my original post, I'm sure it was quite clear in the subsequent posts...

I rolled a stop sign on Saturday and now have to pay $160 for a class to keep it off my record. Fvcking sucks. The visibility for oncoming traffic at the point of the sign is nill, and it requires stopping and creeping up further, which when coming out of the subdivision constantly is an easy thing to roll.

The interesting thing was the cop said he had to give me a ticket because he was working on a state grant to saturate that night in an effort to crack down on drunk driving.

Californians are not allowed to speak of stop signs.
I just roll through many stop signs. And on occasion, I roll through the red lights too. Stop signs and traffic lights only need to be obeyed if cops are there watching you.

What I learned from this thread is that there is a guy named Dari that posts here and he's retarded.

Ahhh, so you're trolling. Anyone can go to streetview on Google maps, move around through Brooklyn, Bronx, or wherever, and find plenty of intersections that don't have stop signs each way.

How the fuck do you run a stop sign. She shouldn't be allowed to drive. What if a classroom full of kids and nuns had been crossing the street at the time!

Easy, don't come to a complete stop. Just barely creeping can get you a ticket.

No, you are. Stop telling me what you see and give an example already.
