Yep. Ours is also Made in the USA...and about 20 years old.

My wife's a baker, so it gets LOTS of use.

That sucks, I've never had a KA mixer just not work. I do recommend going with the smaller motor though. You save at least $50 and when the motor finally gives out 20 years down the road, you have it rewound with extra windings. Voila! A bigger motor for the next 20 years.

The motor was never on my mind, it's the gearbox housing that I'm worried about. Older models all used a plastic gearbox housing which would not accurate fix the gears in place which led to slipping teeth and such during heavy loads like bread dough. Supposedly the newer Pro models fixed this... I hope.

Normally, warranty issues ARE handled by the manufacturer...but buying a new one and it's DOA? Gimme my money back...or replace it with shipping paid both ways.

The bowl-lift models are supposed to be more powerful/durable.

I think we know different cooks/Chefs/bakers. All the ones I know prefer the raised bowl type.

I can name some. How about Alton Brown, and Lidia Bastianich. They both recommend the flip up model because it allows you to remove the bowl without removing the paddle.

That doesn't sound like a dealbreaker to me, especially if it means getting rid of any plastic in the transmission.

Anyway, Magnus is a pro chef...

It shouldn't be a dealbreaker, just personal preference. If you're happy with the lever design, to each his own.

Didn't know Magnus is a chef. In any case, there are as many opinions as there are tools of the trade. Doesn't make any one wrong or right. Would like to hear why the lever model is better other than durability though. The Viking mixer with a flip up head is arguably more durable than any Kitchen Aid, so I don't see how just being flip up makes it any less durable.
