I live in the Portland area and have a two bedroom-2 floor-townhome, with electric baseboard heat. One bedroom is used as storage. Anyway, my bills have been really high like $117 for Feb, $101 for Mar. Now that the weather is warming up and not using the baseboard heat-a HUGE money drain. The latest bill I received was for $58... WOO HOO!!

I used to live in downtown Portland, in a high rise, and in over a year, never had a bill over $50. I think that is mostly because of the concrete walls... they stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

Electric heat sucks in the PNW!!

Take a lighter, and go around to all your windows and doors, slowly move the lighter around the seams of the door. If the flame flickers, or goes out, you have a leak, and are wasting energy.
Dude, that's not a good thing to suggest IMO. LoL.
Why?? lol... That's one of the easiest and most recommended ways to detect air leaks.

It's not like you're going to burn your house down or something. You would have to hold the flame against the wood for far longer than would be comfortable to even begin to catch it on fire.. and even if you were that retarded, you could spit on it and put it out. 😛

That's some cheap power! I would be leaving my A/C on all the time. Last year during peak summer months, I was going roughly 750kwh for $86.

No... God bless our servicemen and women and their families!

Seriously... Thank you.

Damn you people do good. Our fUtility bill is about $250 in the winter and $150 in the summer. Then again we live in one of the more expensive utility areas in the nation. Damn National Grid company.

816KwH would cost us $120 here.

Turn that frown upside down. I do think something is awry though. Our entire house uses an avg of 350KwH per month and that's with a pc powered on 24/7 and cooking every other night. I also work at home every day. Avg monthly bill is $55.

In December/January, we used up a total of 1250KwH which is way above our avg and I traced it to a heater I left plugged in for the oil tank... 24/7 for 2 months. That hurt. Still, yours is way above there. You should get someone to check out your actual usage.. cause you may be getting scammed.

2br house
The electric company just stuck me on a budget without asking which I hate and my bill is now $46 a month. I'd rather just pay for what I actually use every month then have to pay or be repayed later.

Remember that your electric bill is probably a flat monthly service charge plus a variable amount based on usage. In other words, if your electric bill is $80/month, cutting your usage in half won't knock your bill down to $40. Where I live, the monthly service charge is about $20 or so.

I think our last bill was like $150 for a one bedroom...its usually a little under $50 during the summer.

Damn you people complaining about a $40 bill. Damn you.

Checked my meter and that thing was spinning like a top 😱 Turned everything off and it appears that most of the spin comes from my roomates oxygen generator. It says it uses 4 amps that would be what just around 500 watts
