I got it from ZZF last week. It ran Orthos (large FFT) for ~30 minutes, then failed, at 8*425 (3.4 GHZ) with 1.31v, temps were ~53*C. I've sworn not to run the voltage higher than that, so I tested at 7*450 (3.15) with 1.28v today. RAM is running at DDR-2 900, 5-5-5-15 with 2.0v.

Not bad, though really, i must say, basically all the A/B batch E6600s were far superior to the newer F/G/whatever else is out now.

Those are some extremely low temps...

How are you pulling that off?

You have a decent VID of 1.2875...considering your ridiculously low temps, you could run 1.35-1.4V easy, which would likely get you around 3.5 GHz.

The room is in basement, probably about 68-70*F. I'm using a Freezer 7 Pro cooler. I think it would run at 3.4 GHz with 1.35v, but I'm afraid temps would get around 60*C at times. It's fast enough for the gaming I do, so I'm happy with the low voltage and cooler temps. I was really surprised by the low temps at this speed.

Edit: After doing some reading in other threads, it seems that the actual die readings can safely be higher than 60*C. I've been away a little too much lately, and wasn't aware of this. I'll try 3.4 GHz later and report back.

Yeah, you might have found my posts ranting about temps :p

I wouldn't be scared of 60C, but that's something you have to decide for yourself

OMG 4.36 GHz :Q

:p Gotta love the incorrect clockspeeds that basically everything but CPU-Z report.

Yeah, seriously though, your temps are fantastic.

I suspect you could run 3.5 GHz (you'll need a bit more vcore likely) w/o going over 60C load, which is excellent.

I've got one of these low VID chips and it so far has shown a completely different behaviors, compared with my previous C2D chips. I can do up to 3.70GHz stable under 1.40V, but no matter what I do it won't do 3.80GHz. Giving 1.45V+ voltages takes temperature to 70C+..!? Temp-wise, its almost like a quad-core.

1.2375V is VID on my current one...& as would be expected, it does well with low vcore.

At this moment, i have mine @ 3375 MHz w/ 1.3V idle, droops to 1.27V load.

It might be just me, but i think 3375 MHz @ 1.27V is pretty nice.

The thing that's annoying about this B batch one i have it that it runs ridiculously hot though.
The F i had at the same time ran cooler with more vcore than this one does!

But the F also maxed out around 3.6 GHz when i had my Coolit Freezone; whereas this B got me to 3.9 GHz back then.

Nowhere near as nice as your 3.7 GHz @ 1.4V though :Q
BTW, is that chip a B batch?

how can I tell what chip issue us my e660? I threw the box away so is there a program I can use to find out/ i dont want to take off the heatsink to look though

Nope.

The details of what stepping, batch, week number, etc. are all on the box or the heatspreader.

Not surprising.

I think basically everyone would agree that the C2Ds have become worse & worse for OCing potential due to more aggressive binning.

The initial A batch, & then B batch were certainly the best IMO.
Best would be Bs overall IMO, as they usually are low VID & low vcore friendly, as well as having as high ceiling with the main drawback being slightly to significantly hotter temps.

Fs are okay in some cases, & they seem to run cooler, though they don't clock nearly as well as most A/B ones.

I honestly haven't followed the new F,G,L etc batches as much, but it seems they have somewhat gotten progressively worse, depending on luck somewhat of course.

n7, my cpu runs pretty f'in cool with this amount of voltage. 22C idle 50C load. I know I can do 3.4ghz on this cpu anything more than that though is overvolting way to much for my likes.
