Ok so I got me a yamaha dvd player and I says it can play cdr disks. I have a few movies on my hard drive that I can burn onto a cdr, but what format do I use ...? Anyone know of a guide for doing this?

TIA

I use SVCD but it all depends on what format your movies are in to begin with. You can't improve the quality when you convert them from one to the other. www.doom9.org is a advanced webpage but its a great site. If you have any probs with the software go to the forums because you can sometimes get your questions answered by the creator of the software 🙂

<< If it doesn't say .mp3, odds are it doesn't support it. >>

😕

First of all, are you sure your DVD player can play CD-R discs? Many DVD players can't play CD-R's even though they can play CD-RW's.

Frequently, unless stated otherwise, you can only play CD audio format. More and more players are supporting mp3's, wma and video CD's and these specifically says so. mp3 and wma's should be recorded in ISO9660. VideoCD should be recorded in VideoCD format, which I'm not really sure how to do it.

If your player can play CD-RW, play around with it, because you have nothing to lose. burn a few RW disc until you find the formatting that works well, then you can reersae the disc.

I opened up nero and selected video format, selected Girls gone wild.avi 🙂 and hit burn. It encoded ?? for like an hour then burned to disk. Poped the disk in the dvd player and it works fine.... Now I just have to figure out why and how it works...

Your DVD player can play VCD's, which are basically just MPEGs SVCDs are MPEG-2 (potentially better quality). AVI's have to be reencoded to MPEG format by your burning ROM, though most people suggest using a 3rd party encoder such as TMPGENC to do this process.
I got a DVD player capable of playing VCD's for christmas and I LOVE it.
