I'm so sorry to hear about that :(

Just remember, that by saving him years ago you allowed him to live a full and happy life. I know that it is hard to let go, but as you said, he was suffering, so it was probably for the best. :(

I feel your pain. We had to have our dog and cat (both of which we had for 15 years) put to sleep in the last 3 months. Broke our hearts. Get another soon, it really does help.

I'm very, very sorry to hear about your pet and friend... :(

I know it is very tough right now, and no dog can replace him, but I would share the advice the famous vet and author James Herriot always gave to folks who had just lost thier pet: Get a new dog as soon as you can manage. It doesn't replace the lost one, but it helps immensly to have another dog to begin a new life together with.

My thoughts and prayers...

I'm sorry about your dog. :( We just lost our dog last year and I still get choked up from time to time.

They offer unconditional love and its sounds as if you gave it in return.

I'm so very sorry, FettsBabe. :(

We lost one of our pets right after Christmas, and I know how you're feeling. Take comfort in knowing that even though he's not with you in body, you'll always carry a part of his spirit with you.

Anyone who demeans what you're feeling right now has never lost a pet they were close to.

Damn.. I would cry too, and Im a guy. I know your pain....
Last week my girl and I were leaving her house and we saw a group of dogs. 2 Dalmations, a mutt and a little pomeranian. Well she was fixing to turn but I told her to stop. As soon as I jumped out of the car one of the Dalmations grapped the palm in its jaws and shook it. My girl cried out and stupid me jumped in the middle of the pack... Amazingly I got the Pom out of the Dalmations mouth without getting bitten. They ran off but the palm was just laying in the street.
not knowing what else to do I took off my jacket and picked him up. We drove to the vet(15 minutes away). The whole time I felt helpless... He was just looking at me and laboring to breath. All I could do was talk to him and hold him close making sure he knew someone was caring for him. We got to the vet and he was DOA. He died while I was holding him.... My GF has pretty much forgotten about it, think its harder for me because I was holding the dog while she was driving... Im still sick about it... This is the type of dog except the one I tried to save was blond.
My Dog Biff

Going to try to stop thinking of the little dog now...

I still don't feel well. I have to go home and bury him. That will hurt. I've also looked on the internet at different dog breeds and that made me feel a little better. I may go to Petsmart tomorrow because BARK will be there. Its a daughter and mother who help animals find homes. They don't have any house doggies at the present time, but she said her friend Amy also helps keep dogs too, so she will probably have some. They are going to call me in a little while (after her mom wakes up). I hate the thought of getting another one so soon, but I think if I can help an animal live by finding it a home then I think I should do what I have to do.

All of us who have lost a beloved pet share your grief. This poem meant a great deal to me when I lost a four-legged friend recently:

The House Dog's Grave (for Haig, an English bulldog)

I've changed my ways a little; I cannot now
Run with you in the evenings along the shore,
Except in a kind of dream; and you, if you dream a moment,
You see me there.

So leave awhile the paw-marks on the front door
Where I used to scratch to go out or in,
And you'd soon open; leave on the kitchen floor
The marks of my drinking-pan.

I cannot lie by your fire as I used to do
On the warm stone,
Nor at the foot of your bed; no, all the night through
I lie alone.

But your kind thought has laid me less than six feet
Outside your window where firelight so often plays,
And where you sit to read--and I fear often grieving for me--
Every night your lamplight lies on my place.

You, man and woman, live so long, it is hard
To think of you ever dying.
A little dog would get tired, living so long.
I hope that when you are lying

Under the ground, like me, your lives will appear
As good and joyful as mine.
No, dear, that's too much hope: you are not so well cared for
As I have been.

And never have known the passionate undivided
Fidelities that I knew.
Your minds are perhaps too active, too many-sided...
But to me you were true.

You were never masters, but friends. I was your friend.
I loved you well, and was loved. Deep love endures
To the end, and far past the end. If this is my end,
I am not lonely. I am not afraid. I am still yours.

im so sorry that you have to experience such pain. my lil doggie passed away last september from cancer. i didnt even get to say goodbye to her. i got home from work and she was covered up in a blanket with my family around her and i knew something was wrong, but i never knew it was what i most dreaded. seems that the vet had not given her the proper medicine to protect her heart from the chemotherapy. what was suppose to cure her, killed her in the end. i was so sad, still sad to this day but i hear that your pets will alwyays be with you, protecting you and waiting for you in heaven. i never knew that spading your pet reduces risks of all types of cancer by over 75%. so i hope that someone will take this information and help their pets live longer. i cant anymore otherwise i will start ballin here at work...

rest peacefully lil girl... we all love you so much

I am very sorry for your loss but you were very lucky to have had a friend like that. Please consider another pet soon, there are lots of animals that could use a loving home such as yours. hell yeah there's heaven for dogs, what good would heaven be without our animal friends!

FettsBabe,
My deepest condolences. I've grown up with dogs. I've had the privilage of putting three down already instead of letting them suffer. It's a good feeling to know that they aren't suffering anymore -but it's still very disheartening to come home to an empty house with no welcome from a good friend. :(

Sorry babe.
