Worth a shot asking for Florida now, since they are moving people anyway.

Good luck!

Just got done with my 1 on 1. My position as a whole is being eliminated, so there is no option for me to move to Denver unless I apply for a completely new/different position. The move is happening roughly at the end of June 2011, so I have lots of time. This seems like a sign to move to Florida with her. I mean, I'm getting two months of severance and then a lump sum after that.

Should I be thinking of anything else?

dude, the guy is moving away from ~Kansas. I think he currently has it worse than you. 😛

That would be different if I was in the Orlando area, but I'm stuck in a middle of a white trash city with no diversity near a humid, bug infested swamp.

Im sure florida accounts for the majority of insect species in the US. I'm actually afraid of opening my front door at night, not knowing what exotic weird bug will fly in. But that has been happening less due to winter coming

IIRC you did not love your job anyway, so yeah, maybe you should take it as a sign to move and start something new (i.e. something you enjoy).

I hated my old position here, but I've been enjoying the IT life. IT jobs are plentiful generally, so it shouldn't take much to find something.

Lol, I dunno. Florida is pretty crappy.

There are indeed shitty parts of FL, and some odd people. But as shitty as it is where you might be, you always have a beach nearby. consider that when you complain to someone that is surrounded by corn fields and fundies.
😀

(my pops lives in Jax, btw)

oh, and to me, Orlando is far shittier than a bug infested swamp. Such a plastic, gross place. D:

denver > kc > florida

HATE Florida!!! if i didn't have my own biz here and the economy didn't blow id be OUTTTT, just waiting for the fiancee to get her a good job elsewhere and i'll follow 🙂

My SO's parents live in Parkland, which is damn nice. Maybe I can get something IT there.

I wished that would happened to me. Anywhere > Central Florida

There's tons of places much worse than Central Florida. Barring the heat, which doens't matter since everywhere is ACed, there's nothing wrong with there. Atleast, Compared to say Alabama or Missouri (two worst places I've been).

I've been in KC for 5+ years now and I'm not that impressed by it. If my company was moving me out to Denver, I don't think I would mind too much.

Visiting friends and family would change from a 2 hour drive to a 12 hour drive though. :\

KC isnt bad if you live on the Kansas side. A few hours from Lake of the Ozarks, all 4 seasons with a nice hot summer, close local colleges, good highways, etc.

I don't think I'd like Denver much. I really like to boat and dont like the cold as much as the heat of summer.

Yes. Pretty much anything but move to Florida. Florida is horrible.

People who say stuff like Ayashi did simply haven't been around the country enough.

I stepped into my bosses office to talk with him a bit, and he said that my position being eliminated was definitely not performance based and that I am doing a great job. That makes me feel a little better at least.

I really like this company, so I will probably try to stay with it if I can.

Florida is about the last place I'd think a job-seeker would want to move. That state sucks unless you are ...well actually I think it sucks no matter who you are.

Any state with it's own fark tag must suck. Who on Earth wants 90 degrees and humid everyday anyways?

Just had a "Development Team Meeting" where my bosses bosses boss came and let my department know that they are moving the whole thing to Denver (from ~Kansas City). They are doing 1 on 1's with everyone this afternoon to discuss options. Good thing I have absolutely no attachment to Kansas.

Just wanted to vent slightly. Sorry.

99weeks of Obama unemployment!

congrats on hitting the jackpot!

Sounds like you hit the jackpot!

You were planning on moving right about that time anyway, but now you get 2 months of severance + lump sum, when originally you were just gonna up and leave. Plus now you can collect unemployment while you are chilling on the beach down in Florida.

this.

Yeah, I am really not all that unhappy. Plus, like I mentioned, this company rocks. I was very happy to be a part of it.

This is funny, though: My position just got listed under the new jobs section and a mass email went out stating its availability... in North Carolina. Humorous slap in the face.

I think that you should master the art of Kansas City BBQ while you're still there, and then move to Connecticut. We need more good BBQ restaurants up here.
