$800 / month for what?

MY expenses...

Rent: 785 / month
Gas: ~120 / month (1 hr drive home, assume biweekly trips home)
Food: $400
Cell: $39.99
Electricity + Comcast ~ $45

So I don't know where your 800 comes from. If your rent is uber cheap, I admire you for spending so little, but I eat like a pig, and so I need lots of money. Even though I don't eat out all that much, I cook + eat breakfast everyday + plenty of fruits.

I work roughly 12 hrs a week which generates $350 per month or so... I spend a chunk of it for myself whether its shopping or whatever, but I keep the rest to lower my parents' expenses.

I get 0 financial aid....

I don't understand how anyone living in Silicon Valley will get financial aid. If just 1 of your parents works in a high tech company, you're already screwed. Your EFC is like 40,000 even if you have 4 people in your household and you're on single income. If you have 2 parents working high tech, your EFC is like 70,000 or more...

Well thing is I live with my mother and sister in my moms house. I do not pay rent so i am good there. I have my cell phone, car insurance, gas, food (which i averaged $6 a day which i know wouldn't really be enough especially since i am on a health food/got a personal trainer thing going, my credit card, WoW account, gym membership, um i think that is it and i put $300 of it for personal spending money. Came out to 830.

My parents are divorced, my mom makes like $46k a year i think? my dad makes FAR more but on paper he makes a lot less than my mom. However i am a Veteran and i was told because of that status i will not be considered a dependant of anyone so i can file for everything my financial aid and loans as if i lived alone with no support

You're gonna work, go to school, stay fit, AND play WoW at the same time? Good luck. :p Time to sort out your priorities, drop WoW first. :D

LOL yes! i go to the gym 4 days a week now and 2 of those days it is to meet with my personal trainer so that does take up time. School Fulltime. Have to work a yet to be determined amount of days (still hoping for 2, 3 max), and play WoW! haha jk i actually no longer play WoW much i log on every couple of days to talk to my guild for a few mins and usually i just go on vent and not the actual game, and i have been going on 40 man raids once every 3 weeks which is about 4-5 though but not bad seeing as they have a raid 2-3 times a week lol. Oh and of course don't forget sleep!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I worked full time and had a full time job.
You wont get much sympathy for me when you whine that your life isnt handed to you on a silver platter and someone took the spoon out of your mouth.

Do you still live at home?

If you're a vet and going to school full time you should be getting a $1100 check every month.

I worked 40+ hours a week while going to school full time. It can be done, you just have to be good about time management and you don't get to party as much.

It sure sucks to have a father who is willing to give you money every month to help you get an education so you can better yourself. I don't know how you can bring yourself to talk to such a horrid man.

If he always does this, you should have known better. Just because he's never screwed you 'like this' before doesn't mean squat - you just never gave him the chance before now.

It's time for you to stop trusting your dad when he makes promises. It's a painful lesson, but look at where you are now. How many times are you going to let him get your hopes up and let you down?

Wow, what a prick. I had to kinda force my dad into helping me out with school, considering he bought my sister a fvcking condo in downtown Toronto (250K, worth more than our freaking house)...so he's giving me 200 bucks a month, and paid 2K towards tuition. Which works for me.

Well, it could be worse.
My mom and her husband have purchased 4 cars for my brother.
Paid all of his debt off, practically raise his kids (2 babies), and are about to buy him a 40k trailer to live in and just recently bought him a minivan.
They also pay his insurance. He doesn't plan to go to college and spends his spare time getting large tattoos that will void any chance of him every getting a job other than manual labor.

But they have never raised a finger to help me or my sister with college or life in general.
Take what you can get. You are already luckier than some people.

Wow...I feel sorry for the people who worked full time while going to college. Yes, I was poor while going to school but I had a hell of a good time!

It seems they realize you can make it on your own, your brother is a bum who can't or won't. I'm sure the grandkids are a large part of the reason they help him.

Oh man, that's hilarious. Seriously, I really thought it was one of his threads, and then I saw the name wasn't his, so I naturally assumed he had the mods change it to BillyBatson. Funny stuff right there.

I have worked full time+ throughout my college career. I still had fun, but you have priorities, and you live off of 6 hours of sleep.

As a matter of fact, I am currently building a house (about 30 hour/work a week), working 50 hours week, on call for work almost 24/7, have a 3 year old and 3 week old, just started a software and consulting company on the side, and am finishing up my MS in software engineering (taking 2 classes this semester, but one is my thesis, so that takes a LOT of work. 3 classes is considered full time Masters.)

Guess what? I wake up early ever morning. I quit playing games almost altogether. I work 6 am to 8-9 p.m. frequently. I don't ever take days off. I don't go out and socialize, see movies, etc. I hardly see my best wife, let alone my friends. I know my situation isn't permanent and will be worth it.

In light of that, I think you can work 40 hours a week and attend school full time.

soooooo i get the ball rolling, look into school things, get my paperwork in order, take my assessment tests, get my classes etc. 2 weeks ago he tells me to calculate how much i would need to survive monthly if i did not work. I came up with $830 which he rounded to $900 and says we will talk when he gets back from vacation. He gets back and we meet to discuss the funds and he changes his mind. I START SCHOOL IN 2 WEEKS! I already got work to give me 2 days a week! He says it would be wrong for him to support me for 2 years even with me working 2 days a week. He wants me to work 4 days a week (32 hours a week) and he will give me up to $200 a month to help. I can't go to school fulltime and work that many days/hours! So now with 2 weeks left i am running around trying to talk to financial aid and get a large student loan to life off of but it could take up to 2 months!

MY DAD ALWAYS DOES THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

/rant

I work and go to school full time, why can't you? 3.6 GPA and for a while I was working 40+, now I work ~20 a week and take 18 credits. Suck it up.

Oh that's true, for the most part. They do it for the kids.
But there comes a point when you have to realize that you are funding a problem, not a solution.
Either way, it put a big strain on everyone else.
Yes, I can make it on my own, but it's not easy.
It makes me wonder if I should stop trying and get thrown in jail. Maybe get some girl pregnant if I want some help with things...lol.

If you are a veteran, shouldn't the government be handing you a nice monthly check of $1000?
