Look at the bright side he could have had a major stroke or even worse death. With today's medical knowledge your father is in good hands and is VERY lucky to be given a second chance. Just be thankful he is still alive. My Mother-in-Law never got a second chance :( Nicest person you could ever meet too :(

Tell your Dad everyone here is pulling for him. I hope you and your mother and siblings are doing ok. Best of luck.

I'm so sorry to hear about your family's troubles. With modern medical care, a supportive and encouraging family, and a positive attitude, your father will be just fine in no time at all.

I hope he gets better

but why do people always feel compelled to share their personal lives with the group?

I don't know if this helps(i'm sure you are feeling pain for your father) but my wifes Dad,who lives here with us in a 2 bedroom home addition on my property, suffered his second heart attack last year and they had to do quintuple bypass and install a new valve(pig valve no less). He is doing fantastic and is expected to get at least 20 years of life on the surgery.

He is 80 years old!

Modern medicene is wonderful.

Keep the faith and be strong for him. He needs you to do that to help others in the family be strong too.

Update.

Well come to find out he was minutes from you know what. His lungs were filling with blood and his heart had just started failing when he arrived at the other hospital. He was in emergency surgery for 5 and a half hours but the doctor said he did fine. He is still on an artificial breathing machine (2nd day) and they are supposed to wake him and remove the machine tomorrow morning. They wanted to give him an extra day to rest because he is a pretty big guy (270lbs)

Anyway I'm kinda tire so I'll probably just post this and hit the bed. Long drive in the morning back to hospital.

Thanks for all the hopes and prayers.

dude.....sorry to hear that though i am very glad that he is doing better. My Grandfather had a Heart Attack and Quad Bypass about a year and a half ago and it scared the hell out of me. They fixed him up good and now he is as good as he was before. Fear not they will have your dad back to normal in no time at all. Your family is in my prayers.

Well he got up today :)

He seems to be doing well and knows pretty much everything that is going on. I did learn a few things today I didn't know. My grandfather had either a quad or quin bypass 2 years ago (I think quin) and he was back on his feet within 7 days. My father, I think, is basing his recovery on that which the doctor told him not to do. We didn't know that open heart surgery is more painful and takes a longer recovery than bypass so he is still kinda down about that. Otherwise he is doing ok but is in a lot of pain. I'm probably still in denial but I'm staying positive. He gets his own room tomorrow and should be feeling better.

Great to hear Kantonburg, woohoo! Now just make sure he behaves himself, and he should be fine. :)

I'll say a prayer for a speedy recovery, but it sounds like your Dad's taking charge on his own :D Take that as a positive sign...if he wants to get better, he will. You make sure to get some sleep...a lot of times we don't realize how wiped out we get from a crisis and tend to push ourselves too hard. However, you need to take good care of yourself so that when you Dad goes home, you'll be able to help. (sorry, I can't get out of "mother mode" ;)) Keep us posted!
