My computer reboots spontaneously...

...so...how do I stop it? I"ll be working on something...and it'll just reboot by itself. It's happening more frequently almost once a day or every few days. Do i need a new mb or something? Originally there were problems with the mb + tv tuner...but the tv tuner came out with new drivers and the tv tuner works now. Oh and it reboots regardless of whether the tv tuner is on or not.

System specs:

AMD T-bird 1.4 Ghz
Asus A7A266 (POS m/b IMO waaaay overpriced and it doesn't play nice with my tv tuner)
1 gig of Kingston Valueram (SDRAM)
Radeon LE 32MB
Creative soundblaster 5.1
Pinnacle tv tuner
WD 60 gig hd
*edit* 400 wat Enermax power supply
*edit* Oh yeah also running W2k pro

Event viewer says this:

Disable automatic reboot so you can get the good ol' BSOD

What OS are you running?

Depending on the Operating System, the computer will 'reboot' itself automatically when it has a catastrophic failure that it cannot recover from. If you're running one of the NT/2K based OS, you might wanna look in the event viewer to see what happened.

dude catastrophes happening everyday? I thought win2k pro was more stable than that.

It has been very stable for me. I did have an issue with it on one computer, but I think it was the hard drive.

I'm having the exact same problem.
I've so far replaced the motherboard and memory.
I'm also running an antec 480W PS.

I have no clue what the problem is and my event viewer is empty.

STOP Error 0x000000c5 is also DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL. MS Knowledge Base article on it is here. Try updating your drivers for stuff. Also, run Memtest86 on your box overnight to make sure your RAM is good.

I had this exact thing happen to me with an old AMD K6-2

Sure enough it was overheating.

Can you monitor the Temp?

If you can, do it.

go into your bios after a little bit of use and check the temp, if it is over 60, i think thats your problem

oh oh...looks like ur right...I rebooted and the Bios says 59.5 Celsius for CPU Temp :Q I was using the stock HS and I replaced the tiny fan with a bigger fan. Any good HSF suggestions?

Ok well I ordered the Thermalright SK-7 HS + YS-Tech adjustable fan. Hope that fixes things...if not...it's on to the Ram
