Glad to hear that your animal is doing better and that you don't regret spending $5000 on it.

That said, you all are freaking crazy.

Glad to hear he is ok. It is amazing how the vet bills can add up now that they are using the same technologies they use on people for our pets. I would hazard a guess that we have spent close to 20K over the years on vet bills for our dogs and cats and I don't regret a single cent of it.

20K, 4K .WOWOOWOWOWO.
i admire you guys that your so loyal but thats a lot of money.

20k is quite a bit of money for any medical expense...alot of this is relative.

I would have no problem laying out several thousand dollars to save a pet.

I'm a cheap bastard, I don't think I'd pay 20k to save my own life!

The main problem I have with spending that much money on saving a pets life is the fact that the pet is probably close to dying anyway.

Seriously, I always love my pets, but 4k is a lot for a pet.

Keep in mind though that this is over a period of about 15 years and is not for any 1 single pet. 1k here, 2k there and over the course of time it adds up. We currently have 10 cats and 3 dogs. 1 of the cats has a low grade intestinal lymphoma and has been getting chemo for about 1.5 years now at a cost of $150.00 - $200.00 per treatment depending on what is done. She is happy and healthy and shows no ill effects from the treatment so we deal with the cost and do what we can for her. That is the way it has been for all our pets over the years, we do what we have to do as needed.

I'm 23 and still live with my mom, and she hates pets. Once I get a decent job I'm outta here and off to get a cat.

I would never pay $4,000 to save my cat, ever.

I was put in this situation a couple years ago. My cat, 1.5 years old, managed to break his hind leg on some PVC pipe in my basement. So I brought him to the vet to see what they could do. So the vet says that the leg is broken fairly bad and it needs surgery + reconstructive surgery + metal plate/rod implants just to fix the leg. He also said that after all of this the cat would never walk properly again and they cannot assure us the cat would not be in pain. The cost of doing this would be in the arena of 1-2K. I contemplated it for no more than a minute and said with great sorrow "put him down".

RIP Rex, best ****** cat ever. :(

If anything bad happens to my cat, I will go for the procedure called "total cat replacement."

How much is that?

I have pet insurance for my cat Scorcho as well, it runs me about 30 bucks a month. It covers routine exams and shots, and 75% of bigger bills. So if my cat somehow swallowed a bunch of cesium pellets or something and needed a new stomach, brain, nervous system, bones, and tail replacement, and it cost 40 grand to do it, I'd only be out 10 grand.

Worth it, in my opinion.
