My cat is almost stalking a friend...

A friend of mine, who does NOT like cats and has never been especially kind to my cat, for some reason has the cat's undivided attention. I don't get it, she was taking a nap and my cat just rested on her, something he never does with anyone else. He'd follow her around, put his paw on her.. Just be totally nice to her even though my cat is a biting bad ass of sorts.

Anyone else have that sort of thing happen? What makes my cat an ass to most people and so sweet around her?

animals can tell things about people that sometimes we cant. its weird but i know what you are observing. my dog likes certain people and doesnt like others. the people he likes are usually more calm and mature, while the people he doesnt like are loud and obnoxious. its common sense but its strange to see a dog distinguish between different people so well.

Reminds me of a story of my father, back when we visited some friends in Europe when I was just a lad. Our hosts had an evil, sinister cat with a nasty demeanor. The cat liked no one except the couple that owned him. He was a notorious biter, and all of us were warned not to touch him in any capacity.

Now, my father had always hated cats...despised them. He even couldn't stand to be around them. A very funny thing happened during our visit. That cat and my father ended up bonding in an amazing way. The two were totally smitten with each other. That feline had to be near my father at every moment, and my dad thoroughly enjoyed petting him and holding him. I never again saw my father pet a cat.

Of course, I remember this all too well, as one day I foolishly attempted to pet said cat. I got a nasty bite in the process, which ultimately got infected.

I forgot the link and it's been awhile, but if I remember correctly, people who tend to not like cats
1) Try to ignore it
2) Don't pet it/give attention
The above leads to a desire for the person avoiding them to pay them attention. Additionally, animals see making eye contact with strangers as a form of challenge or possible hostility. By ignoring them, it's the equivalent of the giving a "shy" look, which helps when attempting to bond with or put a cat at ease with your presence.

Someone already posted something similar, but the explanation I've always heard about this phenomenon is that cats feel threatened by direct eye contact from strangers. your friend who hates cats probably tries to completely ignores your cat, which is what attracts the cat to her.

do you really not believe that? if you show a lot of interest in a girl, she gives you the emotional middle finger every time. it doesnt matter that you are one and im not because being on this side of the fence provides plenty of examples. every time i made it clear how i felt the result was always bad, but if i just acted like it was no big deal, it worked the vast majority of the time. women are complex yet simple at the same time.

I most certainly would NOT want a guy who ignored me completely. It would be fruitless, painful, idiotic, and may I add not worth my time.

I think the assumption that anyone would want someone who ignored them completely is untrue with regards to anyone who is a normal member of society.
