Wow, how do you know so much about Bowling Green?
It's coming back to me now, I was in Bowling Green for the Wachovia Securities branch upgrade. And I drove to Owensboro to see a friend that works for Kimberly Clark. I got the two place mixed up.
my civic is $78/month for full coverage
of course, thats under my moms bfs name so that its cheap.. my friend also bought a 94 (i think) civic and his insurance is less than his corolla was.. although, i dont think they are really comparable since his corolla was newer. anyway, seriously, look at older hondas. the one my friend just got is very nice and it was only $4900 or something.. and thats with a body kit, lights, exhaust (yeah its a rice burner).. so you could probably get stock for a lot less maybe? i dunno, im not a car person, so i guess i shouldnt really be trying to help you Being a Ford mechanic for over ten years I too like the Ford Escorts. I have an Escort GT with 186K miles and it runs great. If you are going to consider an Escort try to find a GT, it has a Mazda engine which has proven to be a better engine than the Ford 1.9L.

You can figure out if it's the battery by simply jumping it. Cost to you - $0. If it is the battery, replace it for ~$50 (as Skoorb said, your car is worth jack if it doesn't work), then you can shop for a new car without the pressure of having to buy one right now.

I wanted to address this in my first post. That's not entirely true. The car is still worth something, even if it doesen't move. At the least, its worth its weight in metal. At the most, its worth whatever salvagable parts + the metal.
Junkyards usually pay 50$ for your car. You do realize they make considerably more than that off it's parts?
It could be a poor/corroded contact, low on fluid, or crack cell. Have a mechanic look at it & find out how much it cost before purchasing another car.

Well...I only live about 90 min. north of it and drove by it countless times on vacations to Florida or business trips to Nashville. Oh, was in a bowling tournament there once, too
Women & cars are so silly. No offense. Most men would pick their choices, and then weigh them for a week before making a decision. Here, you've gone from a "dead" car to a new car in less than 24 hours.. LOL!
You remind me of my brothers girlfriend with this thread. No patience to wait for a good deal and/or find exactly what you need/want. I guess it's not a bad thing.. just, different.
You can sell your car for a lot more than 100$.
If it ran fine before the starter went out, then it is no big deal. Don't let them rip you off like that.

the funny part is that they will spend hours or take even weeks to decide whether they should buy a certain watch or clothing item. But a car? that's done in 24hours!

because America is biased. People look for faults when they hear something is bad. Oh, ford vehicles will lose their tires all the time, DCX cant make a tranny, BMW and Nikasil. It annoys me. Look at any car thread here and you will see a dozen people knock a certain brand because of what they have heard.
