After you get an autopsy proving that it was their dog food that killed your dog, than you can probably get some reasonable cost of that type of dog reimbursed as well as any vet and disposal fees (animals are just property under the law). Obviously they will have to set up a claims department to settle with people over this.

However, if the dog has been cremated already, and an autopsy was not done, you're SOL.

just an fyi to dog owners

its not just can food, our dogs got sick from nutro DRY FOOD, if you call vets and stuff they will say this food is safe, IT IS NOT, DO NOT FEED THEM IT.

My wife is making food for them now until all this passes, I would be extremely careful what you feed your dogs for awhile until it gets settled, and making dog food yourself is much easier than it sounds, at least for small dogs.

Or you could get over it.

First of all to understand what happened to killer, you gotta understand who killer the dog was. Now killer was born to a three-legged bitch of a mother. He was always ashamed of this, man. And then right after that he's adopted by this man, Tito Liebowitz he's a small time gun runner and a rotweiler fight promoter. So he puts killer into training. They see killer's good. He is damn good. But then he had the fight of his life. They pit him against his brother nibbles. And killer said "no man that's my brother, I can't fight nibbles" but they made him fight anyway, and killer, he killed nibbles. Killer said "that's it!" he called off all his fights, and he started doing crack, and he freaked out. Then in a rage, he collapsed, and his heart no longer beat. wow.

My dog is spoiled. He gets boiled chicken thigh/wing meat mixed with rice =p.

Thats exactly how my aunt feeds her 3 dogs except that she uses breast and fresh bread daily.

you can't sue

a dog is property.

So whatever he paid for the dog is the amount he can get back.

So you can sue but it is not worth it

If a company's product causes damage or property loss, but does not reimburse the cost of the lost property, what can a consumer do?

I don't know if this is an appropriate analogy: Bad lithium battery explodes and destroys an electronic gadget . . .

Thanks

This has been front page news for a week.

How could you not know?

That sucks for your brother. 🙁

My dogs eat only dry food but they have been really sick lately too. I suspect this recall to be extended to dry food very soon.

According to Nutro there is no problem with their dry food

if you look online @ forum postings you will see there are people reporting their dogs getting sick, even some deaths from the nutro small bites and nutro senior citizen dry dog food, I would not feed either until its cleared up.

but like I said, our dogs are not getting anymore dog food, probably never will eat dog food again. My wife switched over to feeding them some rice+chicken+spinach recipe that she got from somewhere.

if what you say is true... this would be the mother of all coincidences as their dry foods aren't even made by Menu Foods. in other words... 2 outbreaks of bad food in 2 places at one time. that's a little hard for me to buy.

"We want to assure you that none of Nutro's dry foods, biscuits or treats were affected by this recall and none are manufactured by Menu Foods. "

well we have 3 dogs which are having kidney problems and never eat anything but the nutro dry foods

If you pet is having problems make sure to save some of the pet food. Right now they are saying they have not found anything. So unless YOU can prove the food was bad you will not be able to prove your case, if it comes to that.

They are doing this recall JUST IN CASE but have said nothing has been found.

I think my mom's dog gets fed steak and chicken... he gets fed better than me... 🙁

edit: he also likes fish/salmon/catfood/coffee (we don't give it to him but ppl throw away their cups on our front lawn...)

from what i've been reading... it's suspected that wheat gluten could be the culprit. but this hasn't been completely confirmed.

i plan on continuing to feed my cats nutro complete care dry food until i see something that suggests there's anything wrong with it.

there will be a class action suit, but a pet is considered property so there will be no awards for the owner's pain and suffering.

what really really really bugs me is they knew there were issues with this food and they didn't react quick enough to get it recalled. meanwhile unknowing owners keep feeding their pets this poison. 🙁

edit: didn't read the whole thread. sorry if i repeated what someone else already said.

You can sue for Punative damages instead of pain and suffering. Courts are allowed to reward that if negligence is proven.

Poisoned food list: LINK

The list is very long now on the number of foods possibly poisoned and they estimate that likely hundreds of pets will die.

They have announced that rat poison in the food is the culprit.

Might be sabotage

I have no doubt that in the next decade or so pets will be differentiate from personal property someplace between human and above property. Pet food lobyist and the like have prevented it for decades...

P.S. I feel so sorry for those this affected. Sorry for your loss. Now that the list has increased to something like 90 different brands my sisters pet food she thought was safe is now not safe but I don't believe she fed her two dogs any of it. I hope not and if she did I hope her batch isnt tainted. So, some people that thought they were safe with the initial lists are now in danger of poisoning there pet/s.
