His 11 yr. old daughter is slightly overweight (about 10-15 lbs.) He started locking up all the food in the house about 2 yrs. ago to get her to diet. He deprives her of all 'unhealthy foods' Problem is, the kid now gorges herself as a sneak-theif when he's not around. . . i.e., at friend's houses, school, stores, etc...
The kid obviously needs to develop sound dietary habits through a more constructive approach. Since, like all kids, she craves at least occaisional inclusion of foods that are not particularly healthy, it would seem to me that his solution is fairly naive and not very thoughtful. Now, not only is she overweight, she has been placed in a corner that forces her to be devious; thereby lowering her self-esteem. And, this gorging stuff can hardly help her develop 'sound' eating habits. Funny thing is, he is fully aware of her gorging yet continues his feeble attempts to manipulate her diet.
