Been in love with my u2412m,despite it only being 1920x1200.

The 16:10 ratio sorta makes the scene look bigger then it is and its size seems perfect.:thumbsup:

I think x1440 and x1600 will be more mainstream in coming years, yes. Resolution for PCs have increased from typically 640x480/800x600 in 1995 to 1024x768/1280x1024 in 2001 to 1920x1080 in 2008. Heck, i'm pretty sure I was using a 1280x1024 CRT in 2004.

The PPI isn't terrible - It's the same or better while giving you nearly double the pixels. A 36 inch 4k2 ultra HD screen has worse PPI than most 2560x1440 monitors - food for thought. So while the PPI is the same, the net result is that the picture is a lot more detailed because you're getting many, many more pixels. PPI is easier to achieve on mobile devices, but not quite as critical in big screen TVs/desktop monitors. The picture will look more detailed and be more immersive. Consider what you would use in your living room as a HDTV: would you rather have a 30 inch or a 50? I think a 50 would be a more immersive experience even if PPI is the same.

Anyway, 1200p monitors (and 1080p) are still fine. I think early adopters of 2560x1440 will have a long lasting investment, since panel makers are increasing production of IPS panels. So I guess the main point is that anyone making that investment early - it isn't for naught -- 2560x1440/1600 becoming mainstream is an eventuality and those who don't mind paying a bit more for it will have a screen that will last many years. So the question brought up earlier of "why" someone would get a 2560x1600 monitor; my belief is that "when" is the more appropriate question. Just my opinion 😉

It is like me just purchasing a 3930k this week like i purchased a $300 q6600 back years ago,basically investing into longevity of your parts and looking for the most for the buck as hell years later if i had my q6600 still,it would be plenty good and usable.

Why i got the u2412m i did,quality 1200p that will go years,makes sense,that's why i prefer japanese cars as well,quality long lasting so now i see why 2560x1440 is so essential to gamers.🙂

Dead pixels or Stuck/bright pixels? Sometimes bright pixels can be brought back to life but dead pixels cannot.

Tolerances are different. There is a dead pixel on my Catleap but if I sat you here in front of it without showing you where and loaded up a video or a game or even just a webpage you would probably not notice.

Location sometimes makes a difference as well.

The increase in PPI from my old 24inch 1080p display to my current one was very noticable espeicialy in games.

I would love at 150+ PPI display.

I just got the Auria open box from MC for $339. They said it had dead pixels, but I checked before I bought it and it did not, woohoo! Replaced a 1920x1200 Hanns G 27.5 inch. It looks much, much better, but has been hell on my GTX580's I think because of V-RAM. This will be my monitor for the next 3+ years, hopefully.

On a side note, I'm getting an extended warranty through Square Trade - I cannot believe how good their service was last time I got a defective monitor . It was actually the Hanns-G and the HDMI input did not work. They fully refunded it and when I asked where to send the unit without working HDMI, they said I didn't have to send it in, so I got to keep it and use the D-SUB. It was really weird. I don't know how they make money like that, and I'm not expecting that again, but OK.

That's weird that you had such an issue with this monitor. Mine has been perfect, zero dead/stuck pixels. You shop at the MC on Elston Ave? And yes, there shouldn't be a comparison between this monitor, and one that costs $300 more 😛

Hey another MA-guy! Yo Green bird we should get a drink sometime!

I was one of the fortunate guys to pick up one of those that were in stock (when I checked it was at 5 new, but actually at the store they only had 3, and when I checked the following day it was at 0.)

I picked it up after reading a few threads and so far I've got zero complaints outside of the stuff other people already mentioned. I was fortunate enough to get zero dead pixels too (GF and I scanned the thing for a good 10+ minutes [I was almost determined to find a dead pixel.])

After seeing an Apple Cinema, I have to say for the price this thing isn't bad at all. After proper color calibration (for my retarded eyes) I got it sitting at a great setting. Out of the box the colors are more on the brown side, flipping on the "games" option turns saturation into a cluster orgy (reminds me of my Samsun 27A550), but using the OCR option and tweaking made it perfect for me.

No ghosting, no visual lag, and...yeah I'd recommend it. For the price, why not.

I love my new 1440p monitor, it's sad we went backwards in monitor resolution I have multiple old CRT monitors that can do higher res than 1080p. I use this so I can have more stuff on my screen at once without having to go with multiple monitors.

I can settle with some of the pitfalls of LCD/LED in exchange for the smaller foot print on my desk. I remember I had a NEC something or other 24" CRT and it weighed like ~80lbs and took up a quarter of my desk.

Now I have a nice extend arm wall mount and my monitor sits about 1" off the wall for viewing movies and junk, and 6" off in my face for gaming!

Also this monitor complies with VESA standard which is great, my Samsung didn't 🙁

Yeah it was the Elston store. I even hooked it up to a different computer just in case it had something to do with my GPU. I guess it wasn't meant to be....

Looking on their website, I now see that the Elston store has 1 new and 4 open box models. Maybe they got a bad batch or something?

Dead pixels are common with this display. Exchange it.

Luck of the draw I guess. I have had one a couple of weeks now and haven't found any dead or stuck pixels.

The stand is almost useless but I was able to buy a cheap monitor stand at Frys that put it in perfect position on my desk.

Just fired up my new 3011 and I have one bright pixel, a green one in the lower right quadrant. Dell has a 0 bright pixel guarantee though, but I'm actually debating if I can be bothered to go through the hassle of returning it.

It's only visible on an all black background and I'm running one of those programs that has a chance to 'unstuck' it. I may not even bother to RMA it, although I may because it does sort of bother me that it's there 🙂

Dell will overnight you the new one with a paid return label for the defective one. You can literally swap them out of the boxes and hand the ups guy the box back in less than 2 minutes. Offer him a coke or something while he waits for you to fire up the new one to analyze.

Dell customer service is great, you can give them any number of reasons and they will cross ship a new monitor to you. Or if you ordered it from amazon, they'll do the same thing.

This is why I would never, ever consider one of those korean panels. It's a gamble and if you lose the bet, you're probably screwed. By contrast, dell will have you covered.

What do you think about the newer Ag coating compared to the 3007?

The AG coating is much less noticeable than on the 3007WFP. It's there, but nowhere near as harsh as it was on the 3007. Colours also seem much better out of the box. As soon as I fired it up I notice a difference. Been playing with the different modes, I find Standard and RGB to be the best.

I guess I am going to RMA it in that case with the overnight deal. Are they going to want a picture or anything, or just go on good faith that the bright pixel is there ? Reason I am on the fence is that I may just get another one with a bad pixel, or maybe more than one. haha not sure I want to wind up in an endless cycle of returns.

Do they give a BNIB in return or a refurb ? That is my other concern. The one I was sent is a REV08 made in November of last year. If I return this I want a 100% new one again.
