Ya They all get loud under heavey load . To me the noise really isn't a big deal since I water cool . But this isn't about what I do . Its what the buyer gets. On low speed Fermi is to loud. High speed High load they all suck. But Fermi is King of suck.

You speak as though you have one in your PC

What OC are you running that you need 95% fan speed on a 5870? My 5850@1020 doesn't even reach 40%, no matter what game I'm playing.

i don't *need* 95% ... i am removing thermals as any variable as i find my highest OC
- when i do, then i drop the fan speed back to where it is sufficient to cool the GPU and hopefully not annoy me

All i got on the Diamond Reference HD 5870 at stock voltage is 930/1300.
- just fair. And i have already dropped the fan way back down

Next in is the PowerColor PCS+ - it has no voltage adjustments and i am going to find its very highest OC

My GTX 480 O/C's stably to 826/1100 which is what another reviewer friend of mine also got

I love TN. I have a great job, great friends, there's no way in hell I'd leave.

that's a fair plan, but running a 5800 @95% fan for that many hours is enough to drive a person ape shit.

Water in your ears?

You mean there is no fan circulating your water?
- it is dead silent or you just can't hear?

explain

My workstation / Gamer at full load put out 34db. Thats with 10 140 N fans. No PS fan as that is also watercooled. I also use a 4 chamber set up. the bottom chamber has electostaic filter and pump and PS . Filter is 18"x18". The total weght of this workstation is 274lbs. Soon to be a 3 lcd set up as soon as Bob gets the new Top chamber completed Pump is 30 db. fans around 20db I have forgotten more about flow than most will ever know.

Hours? oh no .. only when i am 3D testing

i got over 925 already with the PowerColor - 935/1300
- finally after 2 nights of fiddling with it .. but that seems to be where the reference Diamond stops - at 925/1300 .. i might get 927 but, i am OK with it

Especially now that i can get the PowerColor even higher; i found the voltage regulator adjustment!!

Several reviews said it is impossible - but i am running 940/1300 right now and it is probably in need of a little more juice.

950 here i come

what is safe? 1.3V maybe ?

he hasn't heard 2900XT, evidently

btw, many reviews are dead wrong about the supposed lack of voltage adjustment on the PowerColor HD 5870 PCS+
- there is indeed an adjustment accessible from Afterburner if you edit the configuration file.

http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/powercolor_5870/5.htm

Voltage programs such as MSI Afterburner were unable to adjust the voltage and thus the card had to do with what it was set with.

It is by no means the only review that has it wrong. Although I was able to eventually get only 925/1300 on stock voltage, My Powercolor is now sitting at 960/1300 at just over 1.250V. Maximum temperatures are still excellent.

Count me impressed! This card is a beast when overclocked. I will continue to push it with safety in mind and keep an eye on temperatures. This benching should make for an excellent part two to my article vs O/Cd GTX 480.

the buyers would love either card ... GTX for raw performance and the Radeon for a cooler running smaller process that can be overclocked pretty well.

Ya he has heard it . We never thought about comparing to 2900xt. I did only after you brought it up. I never heard mine run tho . As It went directly to water . Still have the fan tho . Bobb was looking for a video to do . I think the 5870 the 480 and the 2900xt would be a dam good video to do a sound compare On the INTERNET thanks for the idea. All three cards at 100% should be fair or would 100c be better . NA the 5870 never get that hot . All fans at 100% it will be than .

The AMD engineer I spoke with said 1.35v, but personally I'd stay below 1.3. I can push my 5850 to 1090 with 1.35, but the VRMs get really, really hot. 90C during gaming seemed excessive.

i settled for 950/1300 MHz at 1.25V
- it should be fine to set against a GTX 480 @ 825/1100 MHz

that is a decent OC and it gets flaky at 960MHz and it is starting to warm up; so i would have to give it even more voltage

what do you think?

Neither are annoying to YOU ????

I am not crapping on your thread just this statement. Nice performance But heat power draw and NOISE make this card crapola.

Here have a listen and tell me it's not annoying. LOL.

A quote from you on March 11.
"Heres a fact. Since june of 09 these forums have been filled with NV hype BS. Its time for an old ATI fanboy to start hyping northern lights beings how Fermi will be here in 30 days. Time to market for ATI . I do it out of respect for the company and my brother inlaw use to work for ATI now with Intel . So I am self appointed ATI AEG member. LOL . The differance is I do it for fun and sport. I don't get free parts for hyping and marketing."

Just wanted to make sure you were having the fun that you thought you were going to have. Are you?

Jesus you are confrontational Keys, let it go already?

he`s asking if neither is annoying to you, and you have to pick a fight with him instead of just saying "no"?

Ive heard/seen the soundvids from hardopc for gtx470/480 and the radeons and 480 was louder for ME, its subjective and some have less of an issue with sound than others, we can either discuss that nicely or we can leave it at the door, agreeing to disagree.

Since you asked:

DX11 Renderer
Ultra Quality
MSAA: 4x
MSAA for Alpha-Testing: Off (It looks like this can't be enabled for the full version of the game)
SSAO Mode: HDAO
SSAO Quality: Ultra
Use DX10.1: On
Enable Tessellation: On
Contact Hardening Shadows: On

Thank you!

You wouldn't be confrontational to someone who says they are going to disrupt everything you do and say?

Keys has been getting flak just for posting his GTX 480 benchmarks; all i see is a lot of jealousy.

i can do a LOT more than "say no" i can also post soundbytes
- a HD 5870 at max RPM is really annoying *also*
---neither of them are "2900XT loud"
I'm sure he is having more fun than you are anyways.
Define fun. Your example is that of a Troll whose stated intention is to disrupt the forum.

I think its pretty rude calling me and others who post asking him for some scores as jealous. But its your call. Standing up for your chump is all good by me, just keep the namecalling out of it.

You just made it clearer how rude you are by your own name calling

Let's try rude and jealous. Truth stings. Fire and acid.

No, I'm not. You've heard the vids, that is wonderful for you. I have both cards here in front of me. I'm here to tell you that they are both loud when under load. The 480 is louder for sure, but not to the extreme exaggeration you're reading on the web. It's not like you can hear the GTX480, but not the 5870 at load. Not like that at all. You hear them both just fine.
