i'd have to agree about taking the maxima over the corolla...the 2000-2003 maximas were hot. Too bad the 2004s are fugly...

The engines are bulletproof too...our '93 maxima gxe refuses to die, and my parents see no reason to get a new car till this one goes...

i guess Thegonagle is right about the priorities. i'd be more than willing to take a used car that gives worse gas mileage but KILLS the corolla off the line

I know what you mean. Showing those econoboxes who's the boss is definitely a top priority.

i don't like any of new maxima's... maybe the 97 body style was the last one i found acceptable. I was thinking of buying my friends maxima cause he was considering to sell it (double digit points hurts insurance :p).. but then i thought about it.. he has double digit points.. do i really want that car? hehe.. that and he just stupidily ran into a poll that did 5k+ in damage.

I get 30mpg on my Maxima - for a V6 i don't consider that a bad thing at all. As far as insurance rates go... not sure about Corolla's - but my rates went down significantly coming from a Civic.

Most women I know really just want a reliable car that gets good gas mileage or a SUV. They do not have the passion for cars that a lot of guys on the forum have.

'04 Corolla goes 0-60 in 8.2 seconds with the manual and around 9.0 for the automatic. I don't consider that too slow for an econobox.

That being said, some people just like newer vehicles. The interior quality, fit and finish, and reliability of an '04 will trump a '01 Maxima regardless. Not to mention that it will get much higher gas mileage on regular unleaded.

Stop acting like a bunch of childish ingrates. This is most likely an older woman who wanted a new, small, reliable, fuel efficient car (Toyota buyers are typically about 5-10 years older than Nissan buyers). She's not in the same buying demographic as the Maxima cravin' f@p f@p boys on these forums.

Interesting that you say that, down here it's the other way around. Most Corolla buyers are the younger generations, Maxima owners tend to be in their early 30's. :)

how old are you anyway? seems like you're those who would riced up your car just to get that 1-2HP. dude your aunt made a good choice in picking the corolla. All she wanted was to drive a econbox from A to B and the corolla serve her well. not to mention it is still under waranty and a peace of mind knowing no one evar abused her car.

All I have to say is... when you buy a used car you buy someone elses problems without a warranty.
Atleast with a new car its still covered and you know no one has driven the hell out of it.

Then engine is acutally quite loud in the 2003-2004's. A lot noiser then the 2002's.

The previous owner drove the hell out of my car and I'm still happy with it :) if you're not a car guy or into car at all though and strictly want an A to B car and don't care about anything but cost, fuel efficiency, etc.. then the corolla is an excellent choice indeed.

I'd rather have the '91 - '94 Corollas than the newer ones.

But yeah, let your aunt buy whatever she wants. I doubt she'd care for the extra power/luxury/size of the Maxima over the Corolla. However from a financial point of view, I'd go Maxima just cause its cheaper while offering more (in your case). But then a used Camry/Accord/Corolla would do the same as well.

1 - she is your "aunt" (most older people/women just want a car that works and be done with it, because older car will/may need service soon)
2 - fuel ecconmy for commuting.

Check out Edmunds corolla LE price @ Edmunds, a full options and fully loaded corolla could go up to $18,000 and about $19,800 out the door in Los Angeles. I heard a frield just got a corolla LE at Longo toyota for $18,000. $18000-$4000=$14000 for a 2001 Maxima and I asume it is 2001 maxima GXE with average miliage and the price is around $13,800 @ Edmunds. It is reason and possible. But brand new car is brand new car, you take care of it like a little baby during the break in period, it will reward you for a long time, and you never know how was the first owner drive the car during the break in period.

You need to accept that her priorities aren't the same as yours, and you're probably not ever going to change that.

Your eye-rolley rant sucks!

Why do you guys keep comparing a 3 year old car with no warranty to a brand new car????

That's my mom said, so she bought a 2003 Civic LX instead (yes, a stick shift, we're a stick shift family on that side). It was actually quite an odd surprise. After months of looking, both online and at dealerships, and leaning heavily toward a Corolla LE, because it looked more classy to her, and the highway mileage, at 40 MPG, was 2 better than the Civic, she called me and told me she had just bought the Civic.

It came down to the test drive. She was disappointed with the Corolla when she finally test drove both cars. She said the Civic was quieter and handled better. She also liked the fact that the Civic LX came equipped only one way from the factory -- exactly how she wanted it. She would have needed to pay for a few options on the Corolla, and then find the car with the right equipment in stock, or else order it, and wait for 4 months. A stick shift Corolla LE is not very easy to find in stock, let alone a stick shift LE with her option choices.

I would have been happy for either way, because it was her new car, and she got what she wanted.

BTW, if you want to know what she drove prior to the Civic, I'll tell you: It's a 5-speed Nissan Maxima SE.

My grandparents have a Corrolla, or is it the Camry. Which one's better? Casue it's pretty good, and I'd rather be driving it than my Celica :( ( my Celica is old, underpowered, and about to bite the dust me thinks.... )

Camry is "better." It's larger and has more features (and more powerful engines).

Agreed. I plan on getting a new corolla (2004 or 2005) next summer.
