My 6800GT Stutters In Every Game

Your positive you turned fast writes off? I mean turned them off, rebooted, then checked to make sure they were off. I have seen this problem several times and each time it had to do with fast writes.

100% positive..

its not like the 5 second pause that happens if you overclock without turning fastwrites off that people have been getting with the NF2/3/4's and 6800's... they are just slight skips and stutters.. and turning fastwrites off dident help anything

yep.. DFI just released a new bios a few weeks ago.. using that.. and have tried so many nforce drivers that my head spins
 
Are you using the Nvidia Firewall or NAM? Not sure if its the same for the NF3 chipset as the NF4, as I never used it on my NF3 based board... I was having similar issues as you on my NF4 board until I disabled the Firewall and uninstalled the Network Access Manager or whatever its called. Everything ran very smooth after that.

when the nforce drivers asked if i wanted to install NAM i said no.. so i dont think that would be my problem 😉
 
when ive had stuttering in a game ive found its either i forgot to put my power settings back to minimal ( i run cool n quiet and it only works if you set Minimal power setting) or ive had on a older computer where it stuttered in UT2004 because of the Audigy sound card

switched to onboard sound and the problem disappeared

are you sure that windows is seeing all your ram, i know you said you added more ram, but if windows cant see it its not gonna help you

yes windows sees all my ram fine heh.. i dont run cool and quiet.. and ive tried both my soundblaster live and onboard
 
My system specs are not near as high as yours (see below), but I was able to cure ALL the skipping/hesitation in both HL2 & Far Cry.

I thought my system wasn't quite high enough to run the games with everything maxed out at 1280x1024 (LCD monitor limits), but I was wrong.

My 6600GT runs a little O/C'd @ 550mhz core/1.1gig memory. Thought maybe with the 128mb of memory both games were running out of GPU memory and was fetching more needed memory from system (I don't really know how PCIe does it vs AGP).

I thoroughly cured both games by going from 512mb to 1.5gig of DDR2 system RAM! Where I was running HL2 at medium settings @ 1280x1024 with frequent stuttering I know run with everything set to high with NO stuttering whatsoever. Far Cry was similar in that I had to run @ 1024x768 with most settings at medium. Now runs 1280x1024 with all settings set to VERY HIGH. The only rare stuttering I run into is when my weapon fires and it makes a muzzle flash, but only a split second vs several seconds with 512mb.

Try to borrow another stick of 512mb or 1gig memory to slap in your system to see if you get the results I got. With an AMD 64 & 6800GT you should easily run much smoother than mine.
 
I had a very similar setup to what the OP has and could run games without stuttering at only 512mb of RAM. 1gb is plenty for every game except MAYBE Far Cry at full everything.

Do try disabling Write combining as stated above. I had the same stuttering problem as you, tried everything you have and finally pinpointed the problem to Write Combining. Let me know.

farcry and hl2 still do some crazy stuttering just as before 🙁
 
Damn, I was pretty sure it would work. 🙁

Is it just those two games? When I had my problem the stuttering happened with EVERY game I tried.

not just those 2 games.. happens in all.. even doom 3 at the default reccomended settings..

dosent happen in 3dmark01/03/05 tho :/
 
Ah, okay.

Well, try playing with the Hardware Acceleration bar (on the same screen as Write Combining). Not that a reboot is required for changes to go into effect.

Did you try the XG77.13 drivers?? A lot of people that suffer your problems are usually caused by drivers. Try this drivers and report back 😉
 
I don't think this has been mentioned yet, but did you try reducing to AGP 4x? That usually fixes a lot of problems.

Also, why would people be willing to trade for a semi-broken card? Doesn't sound logical to me...
