whats so bad with how its made

They take some sort of rod and shove food down a Gooses throat multiple times a day to force feed the birds. The bird's like "hay fuck you I'm not hungry!" and t3h human is like "no fuck you bird, people will want to eat you, so fuck your feelings" This and Veal makes me wonder what lengths humans will go to to eat a meal. I got no problem with the humane killing of animals for meat, but both I mentioned make me want to rabbit punch fuckers.

foi gras is the fatty liver of an overfed goose or duck (it is force-fed cornmeal through a tube--traditionally, they are trapped ina box and the frenchmen sits on the box and grabs the head, shoving corn into it's gullet)

it's almost like a sirrhotic liver, iirc.

here is a rather sensationalist video of an industrial production.

not for faint-hearted....

All that being said, I'm not a fan of the stuff, though I've liked it somewhat on occasion. I could probably come around to liking the stuff in time....but it's quite difficult for me to get past the vileness of how it is made.

that being said, I think it being banned in certain cities is ridiculous. People should be allowed to make consious choices about these things.

I think Michael Bay being allowed to make movies freely is just as toxic a moral poison on society.
:sneaky:😀

if god didn't want us to eat foie gras he would've given geese the power to kick our asses.

it's an animal whos sole purpose in life was to do that, who cares if it has eyes and can make noise?

OMG THAT POOR PUMPKIN! IT GOT FORCED SO MUCH ITS HUGE LOOK AT IT! This farmer should be ashamed of himself, he force fed that pumpkin so much and it was like "hay fuck you I'm not hungry!" and t3h human is like "no fuck you pumpkin, people will want to eat you and possibly carve faces into you, so fuck your feelings!"

Oh that's right, no one gives a flying fuck that we do the SAME thing to other living things, they only give a fuck when it can make noise and has eyes.

are you comparing a pumpkin to an animal?

:hmm:

zinfamous, to an animal who's sole purpose of being bore was to be food and nothing more, yes i am. these aren't wild creatures born free. WE gave them life, they only exist to be our food, the same thing with the plants we grow on farms. waahh if they are treated poorly, to me they are no different. if they had names and someone actually cared for them and they were then being taken and force fed you might get some sympathy from me. this is simply human projection of feelings on animals.

So if I can overpower you, how do you feel about me fattening up your liver using the same methods?

Meh, they are not treated any worse than a lot of the livestock we eat on a daily basis and honestly, from what I have seen, most of the foie gras places here are small, family owned businesses that treat their animals quite well as it is better for their product. I'm sure a lot of the crap you put in your gullet was treated far worse prior to you consuming it.

KT

Edit: foie gras is freakin awesome BTW.

speaking from the perspective of someone who has worked extensively with purpose bred animals--in a vivarium with mice bred for making transgenics, as well as a few years with zebra fish and fruit flies, with the deaths of many hundreds of innocent mouse babies whose necks I broke on a daily basis and had to drown them with CO2 as that is the federally mandated "humane" way to sac a mouse--I must say that you are full of shit.

When we raise animals for research purposes--cancer, disease, whatever, we are extremely careful to ensure at every level that these animals are not tortured and receive as much respect as they can get when being used to sacrifice themselves for what we consider a noble purpose.

When it comes to our animals purpose bred for food, I see no reason to bring them into a tortured life, let alone crowd them into terrible conditions for the sole purpose of making the process more efficient in cheap--especially when you consider that cheaper and cheaper meat is not necessarily a "good thing" diet-wise.

You went off on a way different tangent that really has nothing to do with what I was saying. 🙂 What does factory farming conditions have to do with over feeding a goose for the purpose of fattening up it's liver to eat? They are different things and these goose are bred strictly for food so I don't really see the issue. If you don't like factory farming conditions, but are ok with eating animals and killing animals, then why is the overfeeding inhumane? It's all bullshit because you're projecting how you think and feel onto animals which don't think or feel that way because they can't. Their brains aren't as developed as ours.

that was a corollary to what I said. Did you skip over just about everything I wrote before that?

:hmm:

do you not understand that overfeeding = torture?

you also seem know very little about animals and their capabilities. This is quickly becoming a rather familiar argument with Nik.

see: you seem so sure about what you know what animals can and can't think, how or what they feel. And at the same time, are so sure that I have no clue, as I am "projecting what I assume."

do you not understand where you are full of shit on this?

CO2 really? That causes the sensation of suffocation. Nitrogen is equally lethal and does not cause the body to feel like it's in distress. Helium, Argon, or Nitrous Oxide would also work. Interesting that a government mandate on humane treatment would force inhumane treatment. Well... less humane than it could be. Then again, duck, duck GOOSE!

I'm saying it doesn't fucking matter if it's torture. It's only torture to YOU or ME because we view it as such, how do you know the goose does? You don't, you're assuming such and your assumptions are faulty because the animal does not think like us at all. It can't, it doesn't have the kind of brain we do. Yes it sucks that people treat animals like shit and the conditions of soem factory farms are appalling, but I'm not going to scream inhumane and all this nonsense of how FOOD was treated before it got cooked. It doesn't matter if it's alive with shiny eyes or not, the pumpkin did choose to be stuffed full of all the nutrients it was either but you and others don't seem to give a fuck. Yeah yeah animals blah blah whatever.

ps animals used in testing are different than animals used for food.
